Thanksgiving! What Yuns Making? What Yuns Doing?

First off, based on my time living in the foothills of NC immediately following graduation, I believe the proper second person plural is "you-uns"

I'm making the turkey and pan dressing. The turkey is a family recipe made in a Reynolds oven bag with vinegar, salt, ground black pepper and parsley. Everybody seems to prefer that to the dried out usual baked turkey and it's a lot less trouble than frying turkeys. The dressing is grits cooked in chicken stock, dried cornbread, breadcrumbs, celery, onion, chopped hard boiled egg and seasonings, baked until firm and browned. It's an attempt to replicate what I watched my grandmother make when I was a child. And I'm making a cheese ball that may or may not get brought out.

The rest of the family is making a host of sides (roasted carrots, sauteed green beans, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, deviled eggs and homemade yeast rolls, pumpkin and pecan pies. Store bought gravy.

Damn yummy what time should we arrive? ;)

My Dad and his brother are getting up there in age, so we're doing a family get together in Miami this week. 14 of the 15 grandkids will be able to make it (one has to work on Thanksgiving weekend). Last year we did a North Carolina Thanksgiving at a bakehouse in Chapel Hill (just with my Dad's side) and went with a southern themed Thanksgiving. This year we will go with a slightly Miami style Thanksgiving, mixing in stone crabs and Key Lime pie to the menu.

Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Garlic broccoli, Glazed carrots, apple pie, key lime pie, Basque cheese cake (looked good at the bakery)

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

I'm sincerely appreciative for this community (yes, even the non-troll Trump supporters as well when it comes to political discussion) and I look forward to learning something from all of you bright folks here almost daily.

With that, I hope everyone has a great time today with family, friends, or however you've chosen to spend your day today. 🎉 🦃

Getting ready for a day of family fun ( we have no Trumpers in our family ) ☺️

ETA for the kids and grandkids is 12:30

I usually cook for the family but this year doing a Thanksgiving buffet at our community restaurant — I usually do something like that once every 5-6 years and recharge myself for the three days of food prep I usually do for the family Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving - I am in NNY visiting my soon to be 90 year old mother for Thanksgiving and her birthday. It is my first Thanksgiving with her since 1990; when I was teaching it was too short of a break to travel (DMVA area traffic is a true parking lot for this holiday). The past 5 years I have traveled due to my grandson's football schedule at UNC. A side note, pleased to see MB relieved of his position.

We are bringing lasagna as a side dish to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner hosted by my brother and sister-in-law.

Expecting snow throughout the weekend and keeping my fingers crossed I can return home a week from today without weather delay!

Feeling pretty good right now. The "accoutrements" I acquired a couple weeks ago after the election are being put to good use.

Cheers everybody 🍻

Had a minor illness that cancelled our plans so we've down sized. Doing a turkey breast, ham steaks, baked apples, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, asparagus casserole, creamed corn and biscuits with a store bought chocolate satin pie for dessert. Should work for an ad hoc meal.
