The best fast food value for your buck

For the best fast food value, particularly around the $5 mark, Wendy's Biggie Bag and Taco Bell's Luxe Cravings Box are strong contenders. Wendy's Biggie Bag offers a burger, nuggets, fries, and a drink for around $5. Taco Bell's Luxe Cravings Box provides a variety of options, including a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, Crunchy Taco, Cinnamon Twists, and a medium drink. McDonald's $5 Meal Deal is also a good option, featuring a McDouble or McChicken, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries, and a small drink.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Wendy's $5 Biggie Bag:
This includes a choice of a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger or a Crispy Chicken Sandwich, four-piece Chicken nuggets, small fries, and a small drink.
    • Taco Bell's Luxe Cravings Box:
This offers several tiers, starting with a Classic Luxe Box that includes a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, Crunchy Taco, Cinnamon Twists, and a medium drink.
    • McDonald's $5 Meal Deal:
This includes a McDouble or McChicken, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries, and a small drink.
    • Burger King $5 Your Way Meal:
This allows you to choose from a selection of items, including a Whopper Jr., Chicken Jr., or other options, along with a side and a drink.

Well, it's gotten much worse. Taco Bell used to serve beef in their tacos, not "taco meat" (aka 23% meat).

Baumol's law predicts that service-intensive products get more expensive over time relative to products that can benefit more from automation. This is why universities have gotten way more expensive; it's not student debt availability, it's just the way things work.

So while fast food has increased a bit faster than inflation over 40 years, it should have increased more relative to quality.
Yes, when I worked there in the 80's I remember cooking the beef. It came in 10 lb bags. We also pressure cooked the beans whole then used basically a giant mixer to blend them up. It took quite some time to prep. I also worked in the first "quick prep" store, that was the beginning of the end for the 100% ground beef.

I didn't read through 7 pages so forgive me if someone has already mentioned this.

Here in Wilmington, Islands has the best value for fast food. $1 tacos after 5, and just $1.99 for lunch. They're hefty tacos.
