When are they going to shut down forums like this because of people talking bad about Trump and his MAGA cult?
i'm honestly starting to have second thoughts about my participation here (or anywhere online but this is all i do right now) and i don't even say anything that could remotely be construed as violent or threatening.

we are in the bad place.

So ultimately I think there's a very good chance that this all backfires on Trump and his people. They're attacking an entire medium that is waning in influence, and in doing so will probably drive people like Colbert and Kimmel off that medium and into "new media" instead where they will be harder to regulate or threaten.
Yea
They ain't just gonna retire -although for their sake I hope they just kick back and enjoy life
But it is not in their DNA

I'm actually glad about this. Will be really nice to create a juxtaposition between Trump's speech at Kirk's funeral and Obama's Mother Emmanuel speech. MAGA won't care, but for anyone with a semblance of objectivity, that could become the defining contrast of the modern political era.
Obama's 2015 Mother Emmanuel was in a different political era.

Trump's strong suit is not expressing empathy towards others so I have little hope his speech will be memorable. I just hope JD and the others rise to the occasion. PLEASE don't turn it into another Wellstone funeral - that's my fear.

This makes me wonder what Saturday Night Live will look like this season.
SNL has had some pretty significant turnover between the seasons; among other things, Heidi Gardner, one of the longest tenured cast members, was surprisingly not renewed and then Ego Nwodim then apparently quit soon after that (don't know if those things might be related; they had been on the show together for several years). The cast definitely seems to be getting younger (even more so than usual) so we'll see what the new dynamics are like. But there are still a lot of established cast members around like Kenan, Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman, and of course Jost and Che.

I worry the only thing that could pull the country out of the death spiral you describe, at least for a while, is a common enemy. An enemy without so we stop searching for an enemy within. And that, of course, would be its own tragedy.
I thought covid was that common enemy in 2020, but no, the dumbass Trump cultists turned it into an internal "us vs. them." The only thing that pulls us out is the current administration and sycophants getting voted out and replaced by professionals who respect restrained, balanced power. That requires the middle 20ish% to swing Democrat, and that will happen for economic reasons. So I hate to say it, but I think the best way out is for the economy to tank. It sucks, but recovery from that will be quicker than recovery from this piece of shit and his sycophants.

That happened in 2018 and 2020. nothing changed

I thought I was the only one of those in here..
I am the chief ellipse motherfucker. No one does more or better ellipses than me...

Ellipse motherfuckers unite !

I take great offense and will ask nyc to ban super for life unless he replies to my post with an ellipse...

I am very clearly on team ellipse, which I read are called “boomer dots” by the youngs. Youngs obviously don’t understand how much Gen X values the snarky pregnant pause implied by skilled deployment of the ellipse. They also don’t do grammar.

I made an earlier post on another thread that, unfortunately, the only way the Dems win in the 2026 mid terms is if the economy tanks. I guess the "good" news is that it looks like we are on that path for working and middle class families. Meantime, the transfer of wealth will continue and the top 10% will thrive.

The best case scenario would be for the Dems to win back the House in a blue wave and not give up any seats in the Senate... with an outside chance of taking back the Senate.

I had a speech impediment for a long time…It carried over with typing…I do speak better though…I do have a little drawl if you know what that means…

I enjoy the debate…
Bullshit. No speech impediment makes you type ellipses. It might mean that you type in bursts, but the choice to fill the dead spaces in your mind with punctuation is entirely yours and is indicative of what kind of a thinker you are.

I have no issue with trailing ellipses. Mid-sentence ellipses can be used for comic effect, to mimic a pregnant pause.

Otherwise, nope. The way this poster was using ellipses was basically like Ozzy Osbourne talking.

A Pennsylvania man who was stalking a young woman and her family after she didn’t want to continue dating him after a few dates, ambushed and gunned down five police officers in rural Pennsylvania yesterday. The shooter was shot and killed by one of the injured officers.

Three of the officers have died, two are in critical condition. [More info on the Mass Shooting Thread]

This seems like it should get at least as much attention as the Kirk assassination, TBH, but so far it has not.
