We’re kinda repeating the conversation, but my take is that with a modern weapon, including a high-quality scope, that at ~200 yards it’s not a shot that a novice would likely make but also not one that requires specialized training, either. In the kind of environment where Kirk was shot - fairly open area with no major barriers between the shooter and the target, an elevated position from which to shoot, a target that is sitting in one spot and not making major movements - it’s a shot that someone with relatively normal but thorough experience (like hunting) would have a reasonable chance to make.Ok.
On this point I disagree with what I'm reading. How many here think they could hit a human target from 700+ ft in a controlled environment such as a range?
The imagine the other variables associated.
Maybe it helps to figure out who might have done it, I'm not sure, but it is interesting how many think this was an easy shot all variables considered.
To be clear, I’m not saying your average Joe could hit such a shot the majority of the time. (I’ve some experience with guns and hunting, but I doubt I’d make such a shot.) But I also don’t think it’d take particularly specialized training to make that shot, either.
