I agree over the last 2 days. In fact, it has affected me to the point that I had to ask myself what the fuck am I doing getting caught up in it. I have been disgusted with most politicians on the right who have made public comments. I told my son today that if by some chance Nancy Mace is the pub nominee for governor I will have to vote for the D candidate. But I completely disagree with you that it has been that way for a while. There has been plenty to go around from the left

"Today’s political and rhetorical landscape is intensely polarized and fueled by anger, distrust and conspiracy theories. It’s easier to target your political opponents for violence if you see them as “enemies of the nation,” Boyle said." So calling republicans nazis, fascists, etc. is doing just that. How long has the left been using those terms? Since trump 1.0.

My point isn't in keeping score. Its that these past 2 days have been a wake up call for me in that the republican party and democratic party, with the assistance of social media influencers and bots have been taken over by the propensity to use violent rhetoric and the only way to stop it is by a collective effort from the everyday man/woman to reject it in social media and hold politicians accountable. I'm not hopeful.

I agree that keeping score is useless and that holding people accountable is what has to happen. All of these fools who spew this venom need to be run out of office and off of our media feeds.

Agreed, but to be fair, it's not just him - calla here and a bunch of other people I've seen on social media (especially facebook) were very quick to jump to conclusions and just stated that the killer was obviously a vile liberal and that Kirk was killed because of his great Christian family values, and he was a martyr for their cause. We're still in the learning stage, but it does seem based on what we do know that the shooter wasn't what Trumpers were expecting he would be. So I expect that we will now see the bosiding "a pox on both your houses" rhetoric pick up steam.

To be fair, many right wing influencers just this week were talking about how Kirk’s death would be their Reichstag moment. And the Vice President of the United States once called his own current boss “America’s Hitler.” (To my knowledge, no politician in the Democratic Party has even outright called Trump or any other Republican ‘Hitler’).

But yes, I do agree that in general the vast majority of rank and file conservatives are not fascists, are not Nazis, are not racists, and should not be painted with such broad brushstrokes.
