The Music Thread

I can't remember if this has been shared here, but even if it has it is worth another listen. Post Modern Jukebox covering the White Stripes.

I heard them first doing this about 4 years ago. I think it's what got me hooked on the whole electro swing thing. I think this song gave me an earworm that lasted two days.

"More popular than Jesus is part of a remark made by John Lennon of the Beatles in a March 4 1966 interview, in which he claimed that the public were more infatuated with the band than with Jesus, and that Christian faith was declining to the extent that it might be outlasted by rock music. His opinions drew no controversy when originally published in the London newspaper Evening Standard, but drew angry reactions from Christian communities when republished in the United States that July.

WAYX's "Beatle burning" in Waycross, Georgia, held in response to the "Jesus" remark

Lennon's comments incited protests and threats, particularly throughout the Bible Belt in the Southern United States. Some radio stations stopped playing Beatles songs, records were publicly burned, press conferences were cancelled, and the Ku Klux Klan picketed concerts. The controversy coincided with the band's 1966 US tour and overshadowed press coverage of their newest album Revolver. Lennon apologised at a series of press conferences and explained that he was not comparing himself to Christ.

My favorite Lennon lyric and easily top 5 in general

"life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans"

Jason Isbell has a new album out in a couple of days...I've heard a couple of tracks off it & they're fantastic

The song Willie sold for $50 and never regretted because 50 was the going rate back then and he needed thoe dollars.

Day late

Carl Dean, Dolly Parton’s devoted husband of nearly 60 years who avoided the spotlight and inspired her timeless hit “Jolene,” died Monday. He was 82.

According to a statement provided to The Associated Press by Parton’s publicist, Dean died in Nashville, Tennessee. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” Parton wrote in a statement.

The family has asked for respect and privacy. No cause of death was announced.
