The Music Thread

I love the blues and roots music and wanted to put a bug in the ear of those who share my love.
There is an organization in Hillsborough ,NC that promotes the music and advocates for financially assisting elderly blues musicians.

I have been a Listeners Circle member for a few years which one can join for $300/year and one perk is receiving 6 CDs/yr in addition to the satisfaction that you are paying homage to soul, roots, nothin' but the blues

Got an Albert White CD last week I'm loving it... slipping in a little soul to sweeten the blues🆒

so I was listening to Selena this morning as I ran my errands and she makes me so happy :)

indulge a brief story..

My sister lives in Mexico and on a visit years ago she took us to San Miguel to eat a pizza at Mama Mia's for lunch. We were walking down to the restaurant and passed a bar that had its doors wide open and this song was blasting. We stopped to look in and saw these young folks dancing on the top of the bar and when the" hey hey hey" refrain came, they were stomping and chanting the refrain !

For me it was a brief thrilling moment. I asked my sister who was singing the song and she laughed and said "Selena"
At that moment I became hooked on pop Latin music.

For anyone interested in Selena I highly recommend her movie starring Jennifer Lopez that chronicles her life, career, and her tragic death.

Selena - what a huge and tragic loss that was. She was a master of Tejano music and was on the way to world domination...

The cross-over album was never truly finished (the first of many), but a taste of the more R&B numbers:
