The Music Thread

Anybody else listen to 8 track flashback on 90.7 WNCU? Saturdays 12-4pm.
I listen when I'm doing yardwork and really enjoy it. Tar Heel Slim is singing #9 right now!

Excited for a slate of heavy shows later this summer and fall. The Acacia Strain in Charlotte, The Callous Daoboys in Greensboro and freaking AFI in Asheville.

I’m particularly excited for He Is Legend in Asheville though. They’re a metalcore band from Wilmington that have since changed their sound a bit, but their early albums from 2004-2006 were hugely influential on my guitar playing and most of the people in the NC scene around that time. Their songwriting was a little more artistic than other bands at that time, which mostly still followed the tough-guy east coast hardcore playbook.

So I have been day drinking since 7am and playing my favorite live CDs

Now I'm listening one of my very favorites. I had the privilege to see Rickie Lee Jones at the Arts Center in the Peoples' Republic of Carrboro.
Her performance at Red Rocks is one I wish I could go back in time and experience. Her band was so tight and Rickie was so good and connected with the audience.
Every song is great but playing this one to feature the band

When I was a youngster I grew up on soul and beach music and the dance was the shag. So today is a hot July in the Peoples' Republic of Carrboro as I run errands so of course I'm playing beach music.

Posters here from north of the Mason Dixon line may have no clue about beach music but folks here in the South do ;)

This is one of my favorites. Saw Clifford Curry at the Other Eye. He was famous for doing the funky chicken dance. It was a great performance, and I hope the non-Southern posters will give it a listen.

Ok, indulge me as I continue to share my concert experiences from back in the day.

I saw Rod Stewart in HIS ( Hansbrough Indoor Stadium ) back in the day, and it was a great performance, but it was the little known Rory Gallagher as the opening act that stole the show.
They were about 10 minutes into their performance when Rory broke a guitar string. The band immediately went into a jam as Rory went backstage to restring his guitar and then came out a minute or so later playing his guitar in synch with the jam. The crowd went wild !

Ok enough of my intro... here is Rory who is not a too bad guitar player

I love classic country but I love Scooter Jennings taking his dad and adding some rock to that outlaw country...
