The Music Thread

That was good. The music reminded me of this song I was listening to earlier today a little bit.

Booker T & the M.G.'s was the Stax back up band for the Stax soul artists. For those who love soul music, I recommend The Complete Stax Singles box set containing 9 CDs 1959-1968.
Booker T
Ottis Redding
Carla Thomas
Sam & Dave
Albert King
Eddie Floyd
Bar-Kays

and many more...

Full disclosure. I was a huge Steve Cropper fan starting in the 60s. By definition, I have to be familiar with all those and more.

J Cole’s new album is fantastic. He is an elite rapper and the album is a love song to 90s hip hop. Samples from Common, DMX, OutKast, heavy Eminem influences throughout.

Also - Sturgill has announced a new album. Date TBD.

The world is falling to shit, but there is a ton of good music out there right now if you know where to look.

I love Steve Cropper who as you know was a member of Booker T and was featured as the lead guitarist in the Blues Brothers.
I have the Steve Cropper& Felix Cavaliere CD, Nudge It Up a Notch which you recommended awhile back. I love it !

Here's another neat team up from Dedicated, an album Steve put together with a bunch of other people in tribute to the 5 Royales.

You know I love you like a brother, but you have to stop making me buy more CDs like this.
I just ordered Dedicated featuring Stevie Winwood ,BB King, Lucinda Williams, Delbert Mc Clinton ? It don't get better than that...

I am running out of room for my collection. I told the missus we may have to add a small addition to our house

Maybe this goes here?

I know where Burgaw is. When I was working on a pig farm in Chinquapin, we went there to buy a Duroc boar from a hog farmer . Speaking of which, Wells Pork and Beef used to have pretty good link sausage.

I went to UNC with a good friend who was from Burgaw. In our Soph year we took a break and toured Europe for 6 weeks. He never returned to UNC and took over the family lumber business. He died last year and his funeral brought his crew of old codgers back for a poignant college reunion.
