Is Jerry Maguire a romcom?Specifically four songs from Tea for the Tillerman.
I've only watched, half-assedly while cooking late Saturday night. Then passed out on the couch. Is Jerry Maguire a romcom?
If so it’s up there for me.
I'll trust you. Don't let me down.Specifically four songs from Tea for the Tillerman.
I was going to post the same thing. If it fits, my vote is for 40 year old virgin with second place going to wedding crashers.
I like rom coms but especially the ones more heavily on comedy.
Out of curiosity, you ever been married or in a serious relationship?I was going to post the same thing.
Yes.Out of curiosity, you ever been married or in a serious relationship?
I know Sooner's story. With his son, so I assume he's been in one.
But what about you?
I only asked that because my experience with such things has been deeply emotional.Yes.
It’s great. A dark romantic comedy.I've seen a number of you bring up Harold and Maude. One of yuns even posted a GIF from it.
Excuse my ignorance, but I always just assume it was some weird film about a young dude loving an old woman. There's Something About Mary cites it several times.
So, should I watch Harold and Maude?
Damn! I'll have to check it out. Ya'll have given such great reviews. And I don't mind dark. It’s great. A dark romantic comedy.
His Girl Friday is another screwball comedy and also what often gets termed a "comedy of remarriage," a subgenre that makes sense for Code-era films. The fact of divorce allows for the film to charge dialogue with the implication of a previous sexual relationship. And the rapid-fire, bruising dialogue acts as a sort of substitute for the sex that can't be shown or articulated onscreen.Going to go old school on you all here. Any of ya'll ever seen His Girl Friday, with Cary Grant. I love Cary. My favorite actor. I sometimes rock his Breton look from To Catch a Thief.
It's the wittiest film I've ever seen. The back-and-forth is just incredible. You can't have it on in the background. You must watch it, closely.
And now I'll largely shut up and let you all respond. I've been running pretty wild here the past few posts.
I remember back when it was originally in theaters, some friends and I were talking about it. Two of us had seen it and the other friend present during the conversation had not. The friend who had not seen it was skeptical about the movie that my other friend and I were talking up. He said, “I’ve heard that Jerry Maguire is really a romantic comedy disguised as a sports flick.” My other friend and I laughed and responded, “There is no disguise. It’s a romantic comedy.”Is Jerry Maguire a romcom?
If so it’s up there for me.
No, it's both. The studios are not in the business are pushing away potential filmgoers by insisting on some singular generic identification, especially for a higher-budget film with stars. Put simply, it makes no sense to say, "Hey, fellas, you should sit this one out. It's a romcom for the ladies." Generic hybridity goes hand-in-hand with threading a film with as many different market segments as it will bear.I remember back when it was originally in theaters, some friends and I were talking about it. Sure. But their wasn’t any disguising its rom com elements. No, it's both.
