I disagree, but perhaps you've been presented with different data for your field observations.
I'm 40. I will not get into specifics, but I am...let's just say, physically attracted to young women. Has nothing to do with status or "look at me with this hot, young girl" stuff. It's just genuine physical attraction, and I would never actually date them. Because, frankly, that's just untenable and stupid. But though I get lots of matches on Tinder and lots of looks from them in public, practically nothing ever comes of it.
Granted, the Internet is not the real world, but on social media, there is much disgust expressed for large age gap dating and sex. Particularly when it comes to older male and younger female. And anecdotal, but there was a bunch of 18 year olds at some college somewhere recently that lured a 22 year old male to a dorm to meet an 18 year old female. Like, just to meet her. Long story short, the group (including males) film their encounter with him, accusing him of being a "pedophile" and even follow him out to his car and damage it as he's attempting to leave.
Dumb as hell by any era's standards, of course, but something like that would have been unthinkable in the past. Hell, that was just normal college shit 20 years ago when I was that age. Senior guy and freshman gal.
That being said, I am currently talking seriously with a 30 year old. 10 year difference is basically the far fringe of what I would consider actually dating, just due to the generational differences that include completely different cultural knowledge and experiences, life experiences, etc.
Would you consider 10 years a large age gap?
