The Singles Thread

Oh, Diehard, you never answered my question about age gaps. Let me rephrase. What do you consider a large age gap?
Keeping to a 20 year gap. Think once you start crossing that threshold it can be a little too much. A 20 year difference might seem extreme to some but also think it depends on the people. Also depends heavily on the age of the couple. Someone 40 dating someone 20? Ummm, no. But I think once into the 30’s it seems a little more acceptable for the most part and again depends on the couple and where each are in their life. Plus it’s not about seeking out someone younger. If it happens to happens.

This is a very thoughtful response. I won't go into specifics but, as an attractive 40 year old man now...well, I look for certain things. I agree though that a relationship between a 40 and 20 year old would never work. There's just too much cultural difference, too much financial and power difference, etc. But with some age for both, who knows? You're right. It is case specific. We judge things generally but that's not how things actually work. If it works for some, then so be it.

That being said, I do not seek a relationship with women 20 years younger than me. And I always make that clear. I seek actual relationships with women only 10 years or so younger. And within that age range.

My wife’s Ex is 75. His Phillipino wife (met online) is 26. Another friend of mine who is 66 has a 29 yo Phillipino wife. (What is it about The Phillipines? ) But both men have serious “issues” and these are the only females they could attract to marry them.

Mendo, I wouldn't worry about tariffs causing any animosity from Colombians. They have enough of their own political strife internally. There are also militias still deep in the forests.

I don't know what American goods they buy, but stores and street vendors are full of counterfeit Nike gear and shoes, or clearance or stolen merchandise. They do have a ton of coffee bean fields and am sure they ship a lot to us. And cigars.

If you are there spending money in their awful economy you are welcome (just don't flash money.) Also, even though the dollar is down, it is up near a recent high to Colombian peso.

I would be more concerned about Trump's TSA when you come back, even as a citizen.

Money and status. Nothing more.

Thank you, Krafty.

Everything seems to be about money transactions. Yes, it should be okay.

The Philippines...

- America took over the country in the late 1800s, so a good number of the populace speaks English.
- Due to Spanish (before the US) and US colonization, the country is largely Christian (Catholic).
- Due to the Catholic influence in the country, traditional gender roles are still largely expected in Filipino culture.
- And uneven (but growing) economy leaves a good percentage of the population in or near poverty levels.

If you're an American guy looking for an traditional Asian wife who doesn't want to have to deal with significant language or religious issues, the Philippines is an obvious choice. This has led to an active "market" of Filipinas who are looking for western husbands for a better life outside the country.

Thanks. In theses cases, they simply have to wait for the men to die then get SS benefits and other assets with many decades ahead of them. It’s certainly not based on the guys looks. Thats my guess and consistent with what you said.

They can get a much better (economic) life while married to the guy plus what they can get after the dude's death.

And, if they're lucky, they can sometimes bring family members over once they have citizenship, so it's a way to pull up more than just themselves in their extended family.

But, yeah, it's certainly an economic transaction however the folks involved frame it.
