I remain cautiously optimistic our constitutional democracy can still be salvaged if the next two elections go well for the Dems and Dems are willing to use their power aggressively to repair the worst of the damage Trump has inflicted and Trump-proof us for the future. What concerns me most, though, is the amount of rot and incompetence Trump has injected into the federal judiciary. It is rare to see a decision from a Trump-appointed judge that would get a passing grade from a 1L Con Law professor. It's not even primarily a partisanship issue. It's a competence issue. These are deeply unserious and unintelligent people who are now occupying hundreds of lifetime appointments throughout the judiciary. Even if our elected institutions are pulled out of the mire, we're going to be dealing with the consequences of Trump's rape of the judicial system for decades to come.
