Nothing lawful about it. Trump and the Pubs have weaponized the court for their own agenda. There is no reason the Guard need to be in any of these cities. It's complete bullshit.
I agree there is no good reason for the Guard to be in these cities but I do think its lawful. The 9th circuit (majority Democrat by the way) agrees with me on lawfulness of the Guard's deployment. I suspect most of the 9th circuit agrees with both of us on the value of them being there.

The majority of the 9th circuit assuredly does not agree with the guard being in Portland. Trump got lucky and drew a favorable panel that included two of his own appointees. It happens.

I remain cautiously optimistic our constitutional democracy can still be salvaged if the next two elections go well for the Dems and Dems are willing to use their power aggressively to repair the worst of the damage Trump has inflicted and Trump-proof us for the future. What concerns me most, though, is the amount of rot and incompetence Trump has injected into the federal judiciary. It is rare to see a decision from a Trump-appointed judge that would get a passing grade from a 1L Con Law professor. It's not even primarily a partisanship issue. It's a competence issue. These are deeply unserious and unintelligent people who are now occupying hundreds of lifetime appointments throughout the judiciary. Even if our elected institutions are pulled out of the mire, we're going to be dealing with the consequences of Trump's rape of the judicial system for decades to come.

I'm not a fan of the "destroyed" language, but I think maybe you are making a point about "reformed" having a too mild and incremental connotation.
