It’s 19 degrees and a little tiny fine snow, a little tiny specks of sleet, and a misting drizzly rain coming down in SW Orange County.

Just enough on the decks to give them a dusting and turn them white.

Hey, finesse,

Been meaning to ask…..what happened to that convenience store at Hatch Road. There for a long time; then abruptly closed and fenced in.
Never heard. The way it was immediately fenced in made me think tax or other financial stuff. It's like they wanted to be sure nothing got moved easily. I never went very much. Occasionally I'd stop for gas but I didn't know the people or anything.

Sounds like the afternoon along the I-77 corridor could be nuts but we’ll see. Not sure I need a once in a lifetime weather experience, as cool as ThunderIce sounds in theory.

Damn, we have already assured my 4-year old that although this is a “storm,” thunder would not be involved lol

Trees definitely NOT clear in orange county.

It's a sleet and freezing rain mix right now and branches definitely have a coating. Not enough to start to make the pines sag yet.... Hoping it stays that way

Charlotte area news has heavily implied that this storm will be the end of civilization as we know it and that we will be lucky to have either a functional society or electricity by Monday.
The functional society is in question, they will restore electricity.

I play with the American Weather Forum
There is a regular there reporting 35 degrees at 4300 feet in Yancey County

Yeah. It's switched here as well. Just hope it stops soon.

Ah. Gotcha. Ill be honest and say that I spend less time in, around, and paying attention to Charlotte than most any other city. I do not know why, but that is just true for me.

I have no idea why-but living in the triangle Charlotte almost does not exist in our heads Now when I was working in Greensboro in the mid 70s, Charlotte was the succesful city Greensboro lusted after

so this is the most recent run. very little left for Charlotte. everyone closed their businesses yesterday for no reason. I imagine tomorrow will be an issue but we would have done very well out of this if this is accurate. there is nothing on the trees here currently

I see Minnesota and our government killing us and I agree with them.

On the storm ice though....

I'm nervous because the trees are coated, it's this mix drizzle (the worst stuff cause heavy freezing rain doesn't have time to all stick to trees)... And we have about 12 hours of it to go

Yeah, My phone is showing .03 inches an hour which seems laughable but 10 hours worth is seriously nasty.

The trees in our Hillsborough neighborhood are clear and the sleet is not "wet" so we are lucky so far👃

We are a bit anxious about what is to come over the next 24 hours and hope we can dodge a power outage.
