This thread is totally random

My mother-in-law brought a palm tree over. It’s about 23 years old and was first planted by her mom, my wife’s grandmother who passed away a few months after we started dating.

It’s a nice tree, but apparently it has to stay in a pot. It’s also very tall, having gotten too tall to stay in the greenhouse it’s been in for a while.

There are very few places it can fit in this house, and it’s now sitting in my office, blocking a chunk of my bay window and making it difficult to see the tv from the couch.

IMG_9418.jpegI told my wife we’re going to have to make room for it in the living room, because there’s no way it can stay where it is.

Yeesh. Not a very attractive tree.

It needs a bigger pot.

Why does it have to stay in the pot? Palm trees aren't that vulnerable to NC weather.
That’s what I was thinking, and we’re in Wilmington, plenty of palms hereabouts. But MIL is a plant person so I assume she n owes what she’s talking about.

Just cut a hole in the roof.

In second grade, the small school I attended (Bayshore Academy) would serve Mac and cheese on Fridays.
It was awesome.

Chicken and noodles on Thursdays was pretty good too.

The school I went to my senior year (Dixon High, Holly Ridge, NC) Had really good spaghetti on Fridays. It also only took 15 minutes to get to Topsail Island after class.

There's a house near me, when new owners moved in they planted around 20 really big palm trees, some 20ft+. I'd imagine it cost over $100k, considering size and cost of labor to plant. They brought in a crabe to set them.

That winter Ga had an extended period where the temp was around zero degree. It so damaged the trees they have never recovered and look really bad now. 2 have completely died.

I fell sad when I pass that house.

The small southern town I grew-up in did have a Catholic Church, but it only held services once a month. Notwithstanding this lack of Catholics, my elementary school served fish sticks every Friday. It wasn't until years later that I figured out this was some sort of weird homage to the concept of "fish on Fridays." Thursdays were traditionally tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.

When I was in high school, I was very skinny. When I had a bit of extra money, I would buy two lunches. If it was the last of the three lunch periods, sometimes the lunch ladies would either load up my plate or give me the extra lunch for free. The whole, "I'm too skinny," problem resolved itself about six months after I got out of the Army.

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA) won the Central American Cup this week.

My friend (a UNC KA legend) has a son who's just finished his first season as a pro for LDA; Kid played in the championship game and did well for himself.

Am I the only person that actually likes those orange, banana-flavored, stale-marshmallowy circus peanuts?

If they’re still selling them, then no. There are others like you. Unless you are buying them all…
