The Bears of Central Arkansas are a small team with only two returnees and thus 11 newbies. One of those Eleven is a ringer though – Camren Hunter played two years at UCA, then transferred away to Wisconsin where injuries sidelined him. With the Bears Hunter was a 16 ppg scorer and as a senior he’s likely to return to that form. #24 Cole McCormick returns and averaged 10 ppg and 4 rpg last season. The most promising BIG among several freshmen pivots is 6-9 Aussie #0 Truman Byrne. Bulky sophomore newcomer Chris Mason (6-7, 250) will get some time in the paint as will Hargrave Military pivot Malachiah Marable. Waves of guards will head the offense: Guy-King, Robinson, Coach’s son JC Shulman, and others in from Division II will get their shots too. The Bears are predicted to fall firmly in the middle of the 11 team Atlantic Sun Conference. Where do players that leave a 9-24 team transfer to anyway?
Frontcourt: Zayden High has the ritmos and Henri Veesaar looks Strong and even Smarter. Caleb Wilson is above the fold physically as well. James Brown has good marks. Jarin Stevenson is athletic.
Wings: Jonathan Powell is fired up and smart while Jaydon Young matches him in those categories. Freshman Isaiah Denis is all loaded up.
Guards: Point Man Kyan Evans is physical and ready but down in the intel arc. Seth Trimble has his best values so far this season and is good across the board. Derek Dixon has the best biorhythms of any of the minutes players.
Overall: The Bears will be outclassed and Carolina will throw waves of solid hoopsters at them…hoopsters that are faster, more skilled, and far, far taller. Big guess is which men will top 20 minutes of court time? We’re banking on the starters (Trimble, Evans, Veesaar, Wilson, and Stevenson) but also project no one over 23 minutes. We want assists and ball movement on offense and jock-pulling on defense. Heels by a whole bunch.
