My daughter and her husband live in DC. I am more concerned for their safety than ever before, now that they are in a police state with open season on civilian protestors.

That might be the best one-sentence summation of gt's posting style I've ever read. You've made a very marginal point which is very unlikely to be important to the discussion.
"Demographics is a layup. Women are having less kids. Young people commit crimes at a higher rate. Lower percentage of young people relative to the population will lead to a lower crime rate."No. That is a policy position that makes absolutely no sense. Its absurd. Its unworkable. I can't think of a dumber suggestion but perhaps you have other ideas.
Fertility rates peaked in 2006 and have been falling ever since. Before that they peaked in 1992. 2025 minus 2006 is 19. 2025 minus 1992 is 33.I'd guess that the crime rate wouldn't have been affected by anybody born in the last 15 years. You've made a very marginal point which is very unlikely to be important to the discussion.
I am deeply pessimistic about the future of this country, but in the short term, the reality is that your daughter and her husband are at very low risk of violence. As was the case six months ago, and as will likely be the case six months from now.My daughter and her husband live in DC. I am more concerned for their safety than ever before, now that they are in a police state with open season on civilian protestors.
Sorry you can't just ban anybody you disagree with anymore. That might be the best one-sentence summation of gt's posting style I've ever read.

Was this not your argument ? Lower birth rate accounts for lower crime rate ?
If Snoop really wanted you gone, I am quite sure you would be gone. Make no mistake that your insufferable nature is tolerated by many people who could make you gone from here if they desired.Sorry you can't just ban anybody you disagree with anymore.
He wanted me gone before but now that he can't ban people directly he doesn't want me gone? I'm not sure that makes much sense. If Snoop really wanted you gone, I am quite sure you would be gone. Make no mistake that your insufferable nature is tolerated by many people who could make you gone from here if they desired.
You can abandon the canard that you're finally free to say what you like because different people are the mods here.
My suggestion was just following your argument that declining birth rates account for the declining crime rates in DC. So wouldn't it make more sense for Trump to reduce birth rates instead of pouring in the military to "solve" the crime rate "problem" ?Do you really not understand why your suggestion is dumb or are you just pretending to be dumb so I'll spend time trying to explain it to you?
I don't think an executive order to mandate that DC resident males to undergo vasectomies and females to undergo tubal ligations is very practical. My suggestion was just following your argument that declining birth rates account for the declining crime rates in DC. Whether it is practical, would you not agree that it would be a more effective executive order than the one Trump announced yesterday ?I don't think an executive order to mandate that DC resident males to undergo vasectomies and females to undergo tubal ligations is very practical.
No.Whether it is practical, would you not agree that it would be a more effective executive order than the one Trump announced yesterday ?
Yep. I agree with that. No, but legal abortion, comprehensive sex education and easy access to long term contraceptives like IUDs that don't rely on daily or episodic methods would be effective, cost efficient and ethical treatment. Not only that, in studies where such birth control methods were provided, teen births, illegitimate births and abortions all dropped dramatically. Imagine the savings in long term social costs.
VICTORY AT LAST!Yep. I agree with that.
Even though the inflation rate had abated, prices were still the motivating factor for independents. Whether they believed Trump could actually reduce prices is not as significant as their belief that Biden/Harris were responsible for the higher prices in the first place.the inflation rate reached 9.1% in June 2022 and was down to 3% in June 2023, and down to 2.4% in September 2024.
I don't think it was the inflation rate as much as voters bought the Trump con that he would actually lower prices on day one.
Okay. Congrats on your victory! Were you playing a game.VICTORY AT LAST!
So Independents were dumbasses.Even though the inflation rate had abated, prices were still the motivating factor for independents. Whether they believed Trump could actually reduce prices is not as significant as their belief that Biden/Harris were responsible for the higher prices in the first place.
