Was this not your argument ? Lower birth rate accounts for lower crime rate ?

Fertility rates peaked in 2006 and have been falling ever since. Before that they peaked in 1992. 2025 minus 2006 is 19. 2025 minus 1992 is 33.

I am deeply pessimistic about the future of this country, but in the short term, the reality is that your daughter and her husband are at very low risk of violence. As was the case six months ago, and as will likely be the case six months from now.

Trump is feeding on our manufactured fear. But his bullshit does not put most of us at risk. It puts undocumented immigrants at risk. It puts unhoused people at risk. It puts the constitution and our political order at EXTREME risk. But Trump is banking on all of us capitulating out of fear, when the reality is that for most of us -- at at least the white, male, employed part of us -- are in a place where the only viable option is to stand up to the fearmongering coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

He wanted me gone before but now that he can't ban people directly he doesn't want me gone? I'm not sure that makes much sense.

My suggestion was just following your argument that declining birth rates account for the declining crime rates in DC. So wouldn't it make more sense for Trump to reduce birth rates instead of pouring in the military to "solve" the crime rate "problem" ?

I don't think an executive order to mandate that DC resident males to undergo vasectomies and females to undergo tubal ligations is very practical.
 
No, but legal abortion, comprehensive sex education and easy access to long term contraceptives like IUDs that don't rely on daily or episodic methods would be effective, cost efficient and ethical treatment. Not only that, in studies where such birth control methods were provided, teen births, illegitimate births and abortions all dropped dramatically. Imagine the savings in long term social costs.

Whether it is practical, would you not agree that it would be a more effective executive order than the one Trump announced yesterday ?

Even though the inflation rate had abated, prices were still the motivating factor for independents. Whether they believed Trump could actually reduce prices is not as significant as their belief that Biden/Harris were responsible for the higher prices in the first place.
