Actually, I looked up the case on which the allegation of book-cooking is based. I read all the publicly available information about the case, including the "whistleblower's" call with the sergeant about whom she complained. All of it. And from that, I judged that the claim was bullshit because she was complaining about a single charging decision that seemed entirely reasonable. Oh, and they were downgrading thefts of less than $25 from "theft II" to a lesser offense; max of 180 days versus max of 90 days.

So, what have you looked up? What's your research? Oh.

It may be mostly performative by governors who want a piece of the law and order glow … but it also could be a first, gentle step to get people used to the idea of using military for internal policing ahead of much more substantial actions.
