Oh, one state invading another. Whatever could go wrong?

Hey @Ramrouser, wake the fuck up, man. Your guy is trying to start a civil war. And apparently also a war with Venezuela. He's out there looking for conflict wherever he can find it. What do you think that's about?

When exactly are you going to admit that he's gone too far, and when he does, what are you going to do to make amends?

For the few MAGAs on the board who support using the army as a temporary police force, despite it being expressly outlawed under Posse Comitatus, what is the benefit of a temporary deployment?

Even if it were successful in reducing crime while the deployment is in effect, how does that benefit Chicago on a long term basis? It’s not like the criminals are going to stop criming forever once the troops leave.

So is the idea just to leave the troops in the cities forever? And if that is the case, why not just use that money to hire more police? Is the idea that the federal government knows how to police big cities better than local police departments? Because that is not a very traditional Republican position.

National Guard is helping DC by cleaning out the homeless camps and cleaning up areas like Union Square. This, perhaps, will inspire the MPD to not let this get out of hand in the future as Trump will simply call the Guard back in to clean things up - which should embarrass the Mayor and MPD. Same with crime but yes Trump should allow more funding specifically to hire more officers for a long term solution.

Don’t think Trump is actually deploying the Guard to other cities (over the objection of mayors) unless to guard and protect Federal property. It’s more of a head fake to make Dem Mayors support the status quos on crime while he is seen as wanting “do something” about crime.

What happens to the Homeless when you "clean them up"?

What happens to the Homeless when you "clean them up"?
Yes, exactly.

This is like when my daughter cleans her bedroom by moving all her stuff into the guest bedroom.

This is not a long-term solution to any problem. That would be less of an issue if it weren't blatantly illegal as well. You can't have a federal police force (although DC is a bit of an odd duck on that).

So Trump is violating the law for political posturing and nothing else. He is the exact opposite of the NC motto -- to seem rather than to be.

Bowser to provide indefinite coordination with federal law enforcement

Bowser issued an executive order Tuesday requiring local coordination with federal law enforcement “to the maximum extent allowable by law within the District.”

“… By law, Trump’s federalization of the D.C. police force lasts 30 days and is set to expire next week. Bowser’s announcement may quell any showdown over what happens after that deadline passes by authorizing continued coordination between the city and federal authorities.

… Bowser, meanwhile, has gone out of her way to show Trump and his staff that she is a partner, not an adversary, in their vision for the city — even sharing draft language of the executive order with senior White House officials before signing it, according to two individuals who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private communications. Her police chief authorized enhanced cooperation with ICE, and in a news conference last week, Bowser publicly credited the president’s efforts with decreasing crime. She also has been generally affable during one-on-one conversations with Trump.

… Bowser’s advisers think that earning Trump’s trust will ultimately give her more authority and is their best chance at preserving home rule, a federal law that grants D.C. the authority to manage its own city affairs. The mayor is also working to finalize a deal that brings RFK Stadium to Washington, which requires cooperation with the federal government.…”

National Guard orders in DC expected to be extended through December to ensure troop benefits, source say

“National Guard troops deployed in Washington, DC, as part of President Donald Trump’s anti-crime initiative are expected to have their military orders extended through December, a senior official familiar with the planning told CNN.

The extension, which has not been finalized, is intended to ensure continuity of benefits for service members and their families, not necessarily to signal that the mission will last until year’s end.

Typically, guard members do not qualify for military benefits like a housing allowance or health care unless they are on active orders for more than 30 days.…”
