Oh, I dunno, maybe those pesky stats showing that violent crime is steadily dropping in DC (just confirmed by the White House on your favorite network, Fox News) and to which your response has basically been that you don't care because <something, something> it's still too high in your opinion and Dear Leader's opinion, because as we all know big cities are crime-infested hellholes that can only be saved by sending in the troops. And your only response to a perfectly legitimate question about why, if crime in DC is so bad that Trump needed to act, he didn't do this in his first term has been to basically say that you don't give a damn and maybe I need to write him a letter, which isn't actually debating anything either - it's just ignoring points that are made and using right-wing cliches and stereotypes in response ("Russia, Russia, Russia", seriously?).

Although I did see that Trump's reinforcements in DC did arrest a guy for throwing a Subway sandwich at cops and charge him with a felony, so I'm sure that conservatives are really getting to the bottom of things in DC. Carry on, dude, I'm done with arguing with a guy whose main response to anything I post is to say that you don't give a damn and yell that Trump is "rubbing my ass raw" and "kicking my ass" and so on. What is it with your obsession with that part of the anatomy?
You simply can't grasp how illogical your point is or either you can't articulate it well enough to make sense. It lacks any common sense. You want me to give you an answer to a question that only 5 people on the face of the earth could answer and them claim that the lack of an answer is somehow validates your point. The sheer illogical nature of your argument is rhetorical. Your question wasn't legitimate because the answer to it is unknown, but primarily because it is irrelevant to addressing the issue today.

That's wrong too, but tit for tat isn't a viable approach.

Do you support releasing convicted felons then complaining about crime?
It's kind of droll that Trump pardoned the participants of the biggest crime spree in DC history only to now send in the troops during a declining crime rate.

The only help Trump is going to be is giving some of those criminals jobs. The whole damned administration should probably be on work release.

The biggest tell that all this is performative is that politicians who don't live in big cities are spending dollars on resources in cities that those of us who live in big cities don't really want.

Serious question - is anyone confident in elections moving forward?

Can someone smarter than me (likely everyone here) explain why there won’t be military deployment across the country, and why even if there was, elections would still proceed as normal.

Would the grand jury indict if the prosecutor made her presentation holding a glass of wine? Hypothetically, of course.

I've said before that there is more than a decent chance that 2024 was last national election in this country.

Anyone want to do the math on this return of investment?

1,650 officers part of DC operation as dozens arrested on Wednesday, White House says, amid Trump’s demand for crime crackdown – live

...

DC police made 74 arrests on Wednesday

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) tells the Guardian that it made a total of 74 arrests across DC on Wednesday 13 August.

They note that this number reflects the number of arrests made until midnight on Thursday. We’re still waiting on an exact number of arrests from federal law enforcement from the White House.

MPD confirmed that a total of 76 arrests were made throughout the day citywide on Tuesday. The department’s data showed they made an average of 56 arrests per day in 2024.

White House says 45 arrests made on Wednesday night

A White House official confirmed to the Guardian that federal law enforcement officers made 45 arrests on Wednesday night in Washington DC. They added that 1,650 officers took part in last night’s operations.

The official added that 29 people arrested were allegedly undocumented immigrants.

They also said that the National Guard are not making arrests at this time, but instead troops deployed to the capital are “providing a safe environment for law enforcement officers to make arrests” and protecting federal buildings and property.

The White House added that operations will now be around the clock, seven days a week – instead of focused on the evening hours.

Law enforcement will also target specific high-crime areas, the White House said, and will focus on “drug dealers, street corners and set-up investigations”. They will also form multi-agency teams to help with this effort.

Well there is no context there so no answer to that. I'm assuming you are talking about jan 6. As a rule I'm not much on the power of the pardon and how presidents use it. If i were potus I don't think I would be using the pardon power very liberally.

I lived in DC for a couple of years in the early aughts. I'm sure the crime rate was much higher back then than it is now. And I lived in SE DC (although admittedly barely) which is typically the highest crime quadrant in the city. I walked and rode my bike everywhere, never felt worried or threatened. DC is a great city, lots of money, lots of educated people, great open spaces, great architecture, tons of a great variety of cultural activities available. Anybody who thinks DC is a dangerous, crime-ridden shithole either has never been there, is an idiot or is a complete pussy. Or all three. Same with San Francisco, on all counts...

She knows what it means, dumbass. I get it -- you don't think highly of black people.

But I could very well have said those exact words. "What do you mean, chain of command" is a way of saying, "there is no chain of command, are you fucking kidding me". It's a more polite way of saying that. If I didn't say exactly what she said, I might have responded more like, "what are you talking about, a chain of command in this pigshit seat-of-the-pants, racist administration where one is more evil than the next? They don't know how to tie their goddamn shoes, let alone run a police department."

So I think you should apologize for that load of racist drivel.
She was a DEI hire…She is not qualified for that job…

Why don't we ask DC residents whether the City has a crime problem?

A Washington Post poll found that 91% of the residents felt the crime problem was very serious (50%) or moderately serious (41%).

Lol. Who controlled the IRS in 2017? You’re such a mark.

Why does that matter? The actions driving the lawsuits occurred before that. Of course you know that. Your life seems driven by semantics. I find that to generally be a weakness and less than intellectually honest. Are all lawyers that way? You know many more of them than i do.

Right. Here's the conversation in the Oval Office in November 2017.

Trump: I hear conservative groups were disproportionately targeted by the IRS under Obama.

The smart people in the room: Uh, no, there's no evidence that happened. All studies show political affiliation had no impact on tax enforcement actions.

Trump: Hey, Kautter. I just appointed you to this role. Apologize on behalf of the conservative groups that have been complaining to me.

Brand New IRS Commissioner David Kautter: Uh, sure thing, boss. You got it.

Callatoroy: SEE!!!!! THE IRS WAS TARGETING CONSERVATIVE GROUPS!!!!
