OK so i phrased the question to chatgpt a little different and it gave a different answer. I stand corrected

While sentencing finalizes the legal consequences of the conviction, the individual is already deemed guilty of the felony crime upon conviction. For most purposes (e.g., ineligibility to vote in some states or restrictions on firearm ownership), the status of being a felon is triggered by the conviction itself.

Judge McBurney, of the Fulton County Superior Court, just ordered Fani Willis to pay Judicial Watch $21,500+ in attorneys fees in its ORA request lawsuit.
Things just keep going down and down for the DA in this matter. Do you think she'll pay the amount in cash?

No but when i asked the question i was shot down here, even tho i prefaced it will "technically" That was the question not conversationally
Of course it doesn't matter much but i was right apparently
It's been raised before and answered before. One thing to appreciate about message boards is that there are a lot of users who generate a lot of content. I understand why you ask the question, given that you might not know that it's been asked and answered. At the same time, please have respect for those from whom you seek answers. It's not fun for us to address the same points over and over again.

ChatGPT is not going to give you the right answer. I just asked it, and it did not. The correct answer is that "felon" is not a legal term. I'm not aware of any statute or regulation that refers to people in that manner. Statutes will typically use language like, "persons convicted of a felony offense" or "persons convicted of a crime for which the penalty can exceed one year of jail time."

In other words, "felon" is a term of ordinary language and it can be defined accordingly. The common usage is to refer to anyone who has been convicted of a felony.

Does that make you feel better? Your friend is still guilty, whether or not he is brought to justice. And you're still as ignorant as you were this morning.

Yes it does. This is a thread about Trump's criminal and civil cases so it's relevant to this discussion. You're just tired of all the MAGA winning and the death and utter disgrace of lawfare; hence, the personal insults.

I am tired of the MAGA winning, that is true, though not for the reason you think. The "insults" follow directly from your own words. For instance, you keep using this word "lawfare" without having the slightest idea what it means. In fact, the vast majority of what you post is inaccurate.

What you don't understand about me -- and I think a lot of liberals -- is the value I place on principles. I don't hate MAGA because of some personal grudge. I hate MAGA because of its lies, stupidity and venality. Those are just objectively true characterizations. It is also an objectively true characterization that Cuomo is a creep and thus I wouldn't support him, even though he's an innocent babe compared to the people you guys elect or appoint to government. That's because principles matter to me.

Truth also matters to me. Nobody knows the whole truth, and outside of scientific proofs or empirical data, there's usually some contest between different understandings of the world. For instance, some people view the world as a kingdom of God, and some people do not. Both views are valid and I have no issue with either one. But just because we can't always determine what IS true, we can readily determine many things that ARE NOT true. And most MAGA and Trump bullshit falls into that latter category.

It is a fact that tariffs are incident on Americans and not on foreign countries, as Trump would have you believe. It is a fact that trade barriers lower global standards of living. It is a fact that most if not all countries that have tried protectionist trade policies became poorer and less competitive for it. It is a fact that, while America can tariff the whole world, other countries will not be tariffing either other. That means that, after the retaliatiory tariffs are imposed, American exporters will be unable to compete on price. Their stuff will be much more expensive. Thus will manufacturing LEAVE American, so that it can compete globally.

You guys can win elections ad infinitum and it will not affect those truths at all. Trump's economic policies strongly resemble those of Argentinian leader Juan Peron, who wrecked Argentina's economy for generations. That is a fact. It is a prediction -- not fact -- that Trump's policies will have a similar effect here, but the similarities between the policies cannot be denied.

Likewise, climate change is real. More fossil fuel drilling is money being flushed down the toilet. Jan 6 was not actually a peaceful day. We all know why Ashli Babbitt was shot. These things are objective fact. Your buddy Ray did in fact enter a conspiracy to subvert an election. That is not altered by whatever foibles Fani might have authored. He did the deed. Fact.

Why would the case against his friend go away? If the RICO case is reassigned to another prosecutor, how does that help his buddy?

The case is dead in the water. No other DA’s office in the State will touch this case.

“… After two failed attempts to block sentencing from occurring, Trump’s lawyers have turned to the highest court in the United States for help.

In an emergency application, Trump’s lawyers said the court should intervene “to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government.”

Sentencing in the case where the president-elect was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York, was going to occur just 10 days before inauguration. …”

“… "This Court should enter an immediate stay of further proceedings in the New York trial court to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government," Trump's lawyers wrote in the new filing.

They argue that the case should not go forward because Trump was protected by presidential immunity, as recognized by the Supreme Court earlier this year.

"The Supreme Court’s historic decision on Immunity, the Constitution, and established legal precedent mandate that this meritless hoax be immediately dismissed," Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

… Trump's Supreme Court request was filed by lawyer D. John Sauer, who the president-election intends to appoint as solicitor general, his administration's top courtroom advocate. Another Trump lawyer listed on the filing, Todd Blanche, is Trump's pick to be deputy attorney general. “

“… Mr. Trump’s lawyers argued in the Supreme Court filing that being officially deemed a felon might complicate Mr. Trump’s presidential duties.

“In fact, the prospect of imposing sentence on President Trump just before he assumes office as the 47th president raises the specter of other possible restrictions on liberty, such as travel, reporting requirements, registration, probationary requirements, and others — all of which would be constitutionally intolerable under the doctrine of presidential immunity,” Mr. Trump’s lawyers wrote.

… “Indeed, every adjudication of a felony conviction results in significant collateral consequences for the defendant, regardless of whether a term of imprisonment is imposed.”

The filing noted that Mr. Trump had also asked New York’s highest court, its Court of Appeals, for an emergency stay, acknowledging that litigants must ordinarily seek relief from lower courts before turning to the Supreme Court.

… For now, Mr. Trump’s odds of success at the Supreme Court are unclear. It takes five justices to grant a stay.

While some legal experts doubted the merits of his petition, the justices have come to his rescue before. The Supreme Court’s immunity ruling last year effectively thwarted a federal criminal case against Mr. Trump for his effort to subvert the 2020 election results. …”

What a great man. Just a pillar of integrity and morality. I'm getting a Lee Greenwoodesque freedom boner. Way to go, America!
