Trump Declares War on U.S. Cities

[Can’t the Governor of Louisiana do this for Louisiana National Guard without making a request to the Feds or DoD?]

So the prognostications that Trump is trying to start a war with someone in order to aggregate more power are looking pretty good.

It really is amazing how bad his cabinet truly is. Each time one of them opens their mouth, I'm left with the impression they are the worst of the bunch . . .until another one opens their mouth. Nobody can be worse than Kash, well except Bondi, who is absolutely the worst, except Bessent, but he's a special case, but wait, RFK is surely the worst, except Hegseth . . .

It truly is kakistocracy.

Yep. Political protest not violence. But now apparently harsh language is also violence?
I keep telling y'all, there's only one way to deal with fascists and it ain't with kid gloves or respecting the rights they deny to others. It merely emboldens them.

I understand the frustration but I genuinely don't mean this to be lecturing. I mean it to be maintaining optimism in a time of significant darkness. There are many legitimate reasons to fear for democracy in our country and worldwide right now. There are many reasons to fear for the safety of some of our most vulnerable citizens. It is horrifying; it is heartbreaking. I am not in any way trying to minimize those fears or to moderate in any way the pure contempt that should be directed at the Trump admin for their absolutely appalling rhetoric and actions. But the fight isn't over, and there are many reasons to believe that Trump and his movement can still lose by overreaching. And there are even more reasons to believe that this doesn't have to be our country's darkest hour. It is not that yet; not by a long shot.
inch by inch, step by step...

It is past time for the Congress, the Judiciary, and the media to break glass and pull the emergency alarm.

1 ) Congress, stop worrying about your seat in order to appease Trump and begin to worry about our country losing our democratic republic.

2 ) Judiciary, sound the alarm and remain the bulwark in protecting our Constitution.

3 ) Media, you need to get off the fence and inform the public that we are in a 5 alarm crisis. Tell your reporter/journalists you want them to put on their Edward R. Murrow pants and toss their Chuck Todd/Kristen Welker wussie pants in the dirty clothes basket.

There's no point in hoping for a Republican Congress to do anything. Manu in the judiciary (with the notable exception of the Supreme Court) are doing their part. As are many in the media. But we can't count on those institutions to save us; it will take the firm, unequivocal, mass rejection of Trump's administration, policies, and rhetoric.

The way to deal with them right now is to not take the bait and give them the violence they so clearly desire.
100%. We need to plan for the aftermath. The task right now is to get comfortable with the idea that our old norm-based system is gone, and cannot be replaced. It were those norms that papered over tremendous flaws in our constitution and system of government. And thus will radical action be needed to overcome the forces of fascism.

Whatever we must do to restore democracy, short of violence, must be done.
