Trump & GOP v. Pope Leo

IMG_6578.jpeg

“… Now, fresh from a week in which he skirmished with the pope and Christians accused him of blasphemy, Mr. Trump will participate in a marathon reading of the entire Bible in Washington, the event’s organizers announced Friday. The event’s leader, a conservative activist who once ran for Congress in Texas, has described it as “a national reading of God’s law.”

The White House issued a statement on Friday praising the event, America Reads the Bible, as an occasion to “honor Holy Scripture, renew our faith, usher in a historic resurgence of religion on American shores, and rededicate the United States as one Nation under God.”

Mr. Trump recorded his segment of the reading from the Oval Office, organizers said. He read a passage from the Old Testament book of II Chronicles that has become a touchstone for many of his Christian supporters, who interpret it as a call to national repentance and subsequent blessing.

The central verse in II Chronicles 7 reads: “If My people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

“It’s been a hallmark of the religious right to cite this particular passage,” said Matthew D. Taylor, a visiting scholar at the Center on Faith and Justice at Georgetown University.…”
Trump has never been humble or "turned from wicked ways" in his entire life, and he's not about to start now. What a freaking joke. These people are all loons and woefully misguided and deluded, plain and simple.

Extramarital and premarital fornication has been a favorite activity of Religious Right types for generations. Part of it, I suspect, is the thrill of knowing that they're doing something "forbidden" to others, and they're getting away with it. Not practicing what they preach is standard M.O. for these people. All of those traditional values that they spout so often are meant for other, less worthy, people, and not for them.

The world was treated to a verse from the famous book of Two Corinthians a decade ago.

I'm really rooting for a passage from Two Chronicles this time around.

“… This is a man who’s met his destiny … he said he was saved by God to make America great again…”

“… Do you remember thinking he was going to die when the bullet aimed at his brain only grazed his ear? Do you remember rejoicing after witnessing the miracle that saved his life? Do you remember celebrating the epic landslide victory in November of 2024?

This is what you hoped for. This is what you prayed for.

This is what you voted for.

So why are you questioning every decision he makes now that he’s back in office?

God didn’t save his life so he could make mistakes.

He knows what he is doing. Maybe it’s time to shut the fuck up and let him cook. …”

I cannot hep but feel conspiracy theorist about what happened in Butler. The bright red spray from a virtually imperceptible wound, the Mussolini like bandage, the complete lack of visible scarring, the fact Trump does not show off any scarring despite being the most malignant narcissist on the planet, the perfectly positioned “fight” photographic moment, the lack of scandal and firings from the gross security failure. It is all too much.

Also it was probably just a deranged kid but my brain is grasping for more explanation for all the other implausibilities.

Uh oh, the sheep are getting antsy and the cult must be reinforced.
