Anytime a party loses they need to reflect. But let's be serious and honest here. The only reason a scumbag criminal fraud like Trump was elected is that the majority of voters, and citizens, are very dumb at least on actual policy and causation. They voted Trump because of a spike in inflation. Nothing more and nothing less. A little add on was the Dems complete lack of attention and presence at the border, and Trump and team and far right media and radio making it sound like we are under siege and occupied by foreign criminals.

Reagan, Obama, you name the President, would have lost re-election when the working class lost a quarter of their purchasing power.

In fact, I believe that many women that were outraged over abortion, still voted for Trump because they are struggling to feed their kids. And that was the #1 voter issue.

If there was any screwup, it was putting the VP on the ticket, making it very hard to distance from Biden's inflation (no Biden did not cause it, but it was on his watch, and that is what voters judge on.) Not only was it nearly impossible to distance herself, she would have had to stab Biden in the back to do so, she wouldn't and it probably wouldn't have worked anyway. So it all comes back to Biden (and Jill) for not bowing out BEFORE the primaries. when he was obviously fading fast.

There is no mandate, any more so than any other President that has won. MAGA is feeling it because they also won the popular vote this time which the old Pub party rarely did. Dems almost always win both the popular vote and electors, often winning the popular vote when losing the office -- at least the past few decades.
You’re right that inflation was huge but we had people on this very board acting like inflation and prices were no longer an issue because the year over year inflation rate had normalized - ignoring the fact that prices had gone up 25% cumulatively in a 3 year span or whatever it was.

It was always going to be inflation and immigration if the republicans won. And it was always going to be abortion if the democrats won.

But when you lose a tight election, as someone on the other side who is open to splitting my tickets, it makes me hope the Democrats will at least give some consideration to no longer dying on certain hills that are so absurd, like men playing in women’s sports, illegal immigrants being good because they perform our tough labor, etc.

You’ve been told this a number of times, but Democrats aren’t running on those issues. Those are all made up Republican talking points.

Find a single example of a Democrat actively campaigning on support for men playing in women’s sports.

That’s what freedom’s all about. You’re free to eat healthy or not—there are plenty of options, particularly for those with the money to pay for organic foods. And you’re free to exercise as much or as little as you’d like.

If you’re suggesting we need governmental intervention to promote healthy eating options and exercise, or that we need to somehow limit people’s freedom of choice—well, that seems a bit hypocritical coming from someone on the right, doesn’t it?
Agree about the pubs hypocrisy.

But, organic is little more than marketing now.

The numbers are very low. I believe I read that the state of NC had 15 trans women athletes.

But thats not really the point. The right wants to use this to turn people against all trans people even those who couldn't care less about playing sports.
To add and clarify...

The NC High School Athletic Association had 15 total trans athletes in 2023, only 2 of them were trans females. This in a state with roughly 180,000 high school students. This issue is so far down the list of critical matters to address that you can barely see it with the Hubble Telescope. Pub politicians have made this a priority because it's low hanging fruit that they know speaks to their base's bigotries.

No, I don’t think it’s hypocritical to think that it’s a worthy goal of government help keep harmful ingredients out of our food.
It's hypocritical to preach about small government, reducing regulations, staying out of peoples lives, and reducing government cost then turing around and proposing something that requires increased regulation, taking people's choice, increasing government scope and increasing spending.

Something the pubs love to do.

Disagree. Just because you think government’s role should be limited doesn’t mean you have to think government’s role should be zero.

The military thing mostly started with Vietnam, or more correctly lies stemming from Vietnam. The myth of soldiers returning from Vietnam being spat on and being called baby killers is endemic in rightwing propaganda and many people think that it is established fact and even common.

Fwiw, my experience is that most of the Viet vets I knew were more on the side of the demonstrators. I had a buddy throw his Bronze Star in a pile at an anti-war demonstration after he was back home and at UNC.

I'm linking wiki because it gives the broader overview. Feel free to link anything reasonably bias free pro or con concerning this.

It's a bad look when you don't announce Opposites Day. This couldn't be more directly contradictory.

Do you have a port were you can just download what you're supposed to think or do you have to log in and learn it? I don't care except as a point of curiosity. I can't help but wonder why these messages are do blatantly cynical and was trying to guess if was input or interpretation.

I didn't say anything about zero.

This is a considerable difference between limited government and controlling American's diets.

But we are used to this. Same limited government people are the ones whinning about the government not helping in so many other areas of life.

The right is only limited government when it fits their worldview. They have no issue with big government programs if it fits their worldview.

Something I was thinking about last night had me thinking of another future cost. What happens when the political cycle turns (assuming it does)? How much will reparations cost us. In 88, it was $20,000 a survivor for the Japanese. I suspect that would be cheap these days, even adjusted for inflation. We're looking at 12 million people that we might end up deporting. Btw, that 12 million seems to represent a consensus of centrist reports. Anybody got a more proven number?

And why does it make you hope such things? You've made it patently clear that you will not vote for a Democrat for national office. Hell, half the things you say you want now are either current or past Dem policies that you refused to vote for.

The one thing I’ve seen Kennedy propose that I would be all for is ending pharmaceutical ads on tv and radio. It is probably too late since so many people get their news and infotainment online anyway, but I always thought it was a mistake when the Clinton Administration permitted pharma ads back in the 1990s.

OTOH, that would almost immediately starve cable tv of a key source of ad revenue.

But that is not at all worth having Kennedy having any say over US health policy.

But how else will I know what lowers my A1C in a little pill with a big story to tell?

They also hate weaponization of government so much that they are appointing a guy to headbb the FBI who has previously invoked the Fifth Amendment before a grand jury.

Also, the guy's 2020 portrait is Manson-esque. I don't know enough about human physiology to assess it. Are there people whose eyes naturally look sociopathic? I don't want to slam on the guy if this is just how he looks, but to me it looks like he's a crazy man.

I am scared to give my comment on

Political realignment happening before our eyes!

I am not sure but I think this realignment may have been ongoing for a few years. My brother who only watches Fox and religious shows, has been talking about this a lot the last couple of years. I don’t know where he got it from but there is a fair amount of overlap between food health and conspiracy theories and Republicans have found a home for conspiracy theorists.

Speaking of pharma ads, the stuff I watch on non-streaming TV, which is basically only news and sports, is full of those. Makes me feel old.

Also that can’t be a good sign for college football.
