Shortly after he suggested that the federal government should deploy the young DOGE staffers as air traffic controllers—“We should use some of them in the control towers, where we were putting people that were actually intellectually deficient,” the president said—the same senior White House official quickly dismissed the comment as a serious proposal.

“Lmfao no,” the White House official told WIRED in a text message. “You guys need to learn how to cover him. He was making the point that smart bright people need to be ATC’s [sic.].”

Trump simultaneously suggested the DOGE staffers are young and “very smart,” but also that “some are young, and some are not young. Some are not young at all.”
Shit. Show.

"... Trump said he would establish a presidential commission on religious liberty that “will work tirelessly to uphold this most fundamental right.”

The president also said he would sign an executive order to make Attorney General Pam Bondi the head of a task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias.” The task force will aim to stop “all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government,” Trump said. ..."

Sure sounds like DEI to me except this should be unconstitutional.

If there is one problem we absolutely don’t have, it’s anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government.

UHG would eviscerate the VA. Their approach would be marginally distinct from private equity, which should be outlawed from holding managing share of any healthcare org. I know we have a few vets here; what’s your experience with the VA? How has your experience changed, over the years?

I encounter numerous vets per day, in clinical settings. I have yet to hear a single complaint about the local VA hospital and clinics.

My grandfathers served, and through the 80s and 90s I recall their complaints, as well as a few high profile investigations into VA quality of care. My understanding is that those public injuries sparked very real change for the better. I know that by 2005, at the latest, my grandparents gave the VA plaudits, which extended through the end of life.
I have heard about the VA improvement from a couple of old vets as well. One had an operation at the Durham hospital. Said quality, etc. was equal to the WakeMed operation his wif had.

Panama’s President Denies U.S. Claim of Free Canal Passage for American Ships

State Department has been trying to negotiate concessions after Trump said he wants the U.S. to control the waterway

"Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Thursday denied the State Department’s claim that his country had agreed to allow U.S. government vessels to transit the Panama Canal for free.

“I am incredibly surprised by yesterday’s statement,” Mulino told a news conference in Panama City. “They’re making an important, institutional statement from the entity that governs U.S. foreign policy…based on a falsity. And that’s intolerable.”

Mulino said he had told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth the day before that he doesn’t have the legal authority to waive transit fees for anyone, describing the U.S. announcement as “lies and falsehoods.” He said he had asked Panama’s ambassador in Washington to dispute the State Department’s claim.

The announcement came three days after Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the country to meet with Mulino and tour the canal. In a post on X on Wednesday night, the State Department declared U.S. government ships would be able to access the waterway “without charge fees, saving the U.S. government millions of dollars a year.” ..."

This is why I’ve been saying it remains to be seen whether all the immigration stuff from Trump is a feint or a real threat. I have no doubt they’ll continue to game the system to make it look like a win. But the reality is (a) immigration was already very low when Trump took over, (b) large parts of Trump’s base desperately need undocumented workers, and (c) it’s a big ass border, no matter how many troops or how much “wall” you build.

The immigrant community in the US will be terrorized for years to come, which is unconscionable and completely contrary to the core message of Christianity, but I’m skeptical the movement across the border will actually change much. At least in real terms. God knows what Trump’s chronically dishonest administration will report.

Is the Administration seeking a justification to use military force (bombs or troops?) in Mexico against Mexican drug cartels? I mean, sure, maybe in a vacuum that sounds outlandish, but that is something Trump floated many times during his campaign.

Could also just be PR preening but sounds ominous.

Sure looks like it. Why would the cartels want to start a shooting war with the US military. It’s a fight they can’t win.

Sometimes he says stuff that is out of left field and I don’t even know where to put it.

“[says you can’t have multiple companies run ATC, system, it must be one company] … there are some countries that have unbelievable air controller systems and they bells would have gone off [for helicopter altitude in DC crash] but bells and whistles would have gone off, they have them where they can virtually turn the thing around it just would have never happened if we had the right equipment. [we need a bill to built the best control system]

When I land in my plane, privately, I use a system from another country because my captain tells me, I’m landing in New York, I won't tell you what country, but I use a system from another country because the captain says the thing is so bad. … so we’re going to have the best system, it’s a lot of money but it’s not that much money …”

——

I don’t actually think they can use a foreign system to land at a US airport, but would be curious what foreign country he trusts to track his plane.

If our ATCs just had Sharpies, they could do their jobs properly.
