Rubio has historically taken a hard line against Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua; he's usually been leading the vanguard on sanctions with those three countries in particular (has a lot of Latinos fro these countries in Florida). He's well versed in topics pertaining to Latin America (not sure about other areas of the world...doubtful). He may take a much harder line than what the previous Trump admin did with those three countries in particular.

When you look at Latin America there are several clusters of partnerships, mostly along the lines of ideology. Roughly looks like this (and yes there is a lot more nuance):

"Leftist" Populist authoritarians: Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua (Bolivia has been a part of that group in the past
Left leaning regimes: Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Honduras, Brasil
"Right" Populists: Argentina, El Salvador
Middle of the Road: Costa Rica, Panama, Uruguay, DR?, Ecuador?, Peru?
Thanks. That's very interesting.

The USA’s United Nations Ambassadorship comes with quite the plum in terms of benefits - a full-floor, 5+ bedroom apartment on the 37th floor of 50 United Nations Plaza (East 47th Street).
I wonder how those Jill Stein/ pro Palestinian voters in Michigan are feeling knowing that they helped pave the way for Stefanik to be in the United Nations promoting our Middle East foreign policy positions ?

One thing is for certain.....neither Cuba nor China can expect any favors from Rubio. He despises commies....(and rightly so).
It's gonna be funny watching Little Marco attempt to "stand up to" commies. I'm here for it. 🍿

You know, the best part of all of this is—assuming the House goes R as well—maga is now 100% responsible for how the next 4 years goes. No obstacles. No excuses. When the whole thing fails spectacularly, the only fingerpointing will be at themselves. Then, perhaps, this dumb social experiment can finally end.

Man, all these anti-war appointments like *checks notes* Mike Waltz and Marco Rubio…lmao
As somebody put it recently, a bunch of people somehow fell for "Donald the Dove" for a second time.

I'm not really sure. My assumption is that he kept a close eye on places relevant to his Florida constituents. I know he's made statements about Israel (clip making the rounds today) in the past which makes sense with the large Jewish population in Florida.

His resume is light on foreign policy compared to some other GOP Secretaries of State.

He is very much aligned with my selfish interests (probably the best guy to turn up the heat on those three countries). As I've written on other threads, the US LatAm policy has been terrible since 9/11 and created a dangerous power vacuum that have created ripe conditions for all sorts of security concerns.

Not sure he is great for other areas of operation. And I'm not 100% sure Trump will go all the way with him. He's been a good soldier in this election cycle, but I can see other factions of MAGA freaking out.

GOP just handed Dems a gift. Remains to be seen if they can capitalize, but they created a Senate opening in 2026. 2026 is likely to be blue wave election, and it might be the waviest election since the New Deal if the economy does what we think it will. Yes, it's Florida, but you can't win a seat that's not open. And if the "it's the economy" diagnosis is correct, the coming inflation could and should swing Florida by a lot.

And who knows who will be appointed, but if there's anyone I would want to running against for a Senate seat in 2026, it would be Lara Trump.

Maybe you were missing since 2016 but Rubio will do exactly what Trump wants or in a few years he'll be quoted along with most other Trump appointments as calling Orange an idiot and dangerous to America.

What do the vast majority of the military think about Trump? I know some retired military, ex-military, and just a few active duty folks, they all seem to be either pretty apolitical or generally ok with Trump. But I am asking about the top dogs, like what do they think about Trump.

I think all of Trump’s picks thus far are solid. Rubio is an establishment pick for SOS - which I think you need for that position. The only head scratcher for me is Kristi Noem for Homeland Security.
The one we’re all waiting for is AG.
