I honestly don't know why anyone is still "shocked" by anything Trump or the people around him do. By this point no one anywhere should be surprised or shocked by anything he does, unless it involves humility, decency, modesty, intelligence, or other character traits he clearly does not possess. Just more evidence that a great many people - and not all of them Trumpers - simply continue to refuse to believe that Trump 2.0 will actually do what they said they're going to do, or that part of their goal is to just burn the whole system down.
I had a similar reaction. I think people were counting on more of a repeat of Trump 1.0 when he was more of a blowhard without much focus and no experience on actually pulling the levers of government.

People have been screaming from the rooftops that this time around there was an organized plan and team of MAGA fanatics prepared to do the stuff being done this week and too many other people accused them of being overly dramatic and blew it off. Pfffft, Trump said he has nothing to do with Project 2025, you guys are alarmists!

Now they are shocked when exactly what was detailed happens.

Not just halt funding, but stop work:

“…Rubio’s guidance, issued to all diplomatic and consular posts, requires department staffers to issue “stop-work orders” on nearly all “existing foreign assistance awards,” according to the document, which was obtained by POLITICO. It is effective immediately.

… The guidance could open the U.S. government up to civil liability as lawsuits could be filed over unfulfilled contracts if the terms are deemed to have been violated, the current and former officials said, although at points it says the decisions need to be “consistent with the terms of the relevant award.” …”

According to a report from the Financial Times, a call between Trump and Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen went sideways, and now the Danes are freaking out.

The story goes that Trump and Frederiksen spoke on the phone last week for about 45 minutes in what was expected to be a bit of a feeling-out between the two parties, given Trump’s very public declaration that he would like to take Greenland off Denmark’s hands. There apparently weren’t a lot of pleasantries exchanged before Trump got aggro.

While Frederiksen reportedly expressed a willingness to cooperate with America, potentially allowing the U.S. to set up shop for military bases and dig up the island’s wealth of mineral reserves, that was not enough for Trump. He wants to buy Greenland outright and reportedly was unwilling to move off position. “He was very firm. It was a cold shower,” a European official told the Financial Times. “Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially very dangerous.”

So that’s not great. Officials described the Danish government as being in “crisis mode” following call and said they are “utterly freaked out by this.” Denmark, which is a NATO member alongside the U.S., is now staring down the barrel of potential tariffs that would seek to inflict harm on the country’s economy until they’re willing to let go of Greenland.

They’re right to be worried. Per the U.S. State Deparment, America is Denmark’s largest export market, and business between the two accounts for nearly 80,000 jobs for Danes. So there is a fair bit of opportunity for Trump to put the squeeze on, and he’s reportedly sending some of the most annoying people possible to negotiate. Ken Howery, a former PayPal mafia member alongside Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, is reportedly America’s point person, pending Senate approval. And there’s another Thiel ghoul, Dryden Brown, who appears ready to jump at the chance to turn Greenland into a techno-utopia, whether they want it or no

Pentagon Prepares to Deploy Thousands of Troops From Combat Units to Southwest Border

The unusual use of front-line troops on border comes after Trump ordered the military to give priority to border security

“…Armed infantry and support troops from the 82nd Airborne Division and the 10th Mountain Division—two of the Army’s most experienced combat formations—could be at the border within days, one defense official said, following Trump’s Jan. 20 declaration that he called an “invasion” of migrants, drug cartels and smugglers would be met with a military response.

… The forces would have the same mission to support law-enforcement agencies as the National Guard units already deployed to the border, the officials said.

The 82nd and 10th Mountain divisions are among the Pentagon’s most combat-ready forces, reflecting Trump’s directive that the Pentagon “prioritize the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United States along our national borders.”

… The deployment could quickly reach more than 7,000 active duty troops on the border, augmenting 2,500 Army reservists and National Guard soldiers already there, officials said. An administration planning document indicated that as many as 10,000 troops could ultimately be sent.

Along with infantry, support troops specializing in supply, logistics, security and communications are also being ordered to the border, officials said.

Earlier this week, the Pentagon said it was sending as many as 1,500 active-duty troops to the southern border. An authorization by former President Joe Biden allows for as many as 4,000 active duty troops on the border, in addition to National Guard troops. Between 800 and 2,500 active duty troops deployed to the border during the Biden administration.

The Defense Department is sending helicopters and intelligence analysts to aid surveillance and interdiction efforts along the border. Those deployments were expected to be in place on the border within the next few days.

U.S. troops will construct additional temporary and permanent physical barriers for additional security to curtail illegal border crossings and illicit trafficking, Pentagon officials said. …”

Little Guillermo has been selling candy without a business license. He must not be allowed to continue to make a mockery of the candy shop industry.

Countdown to the principal or a Chicago official being charged with obstruction…???
Not sure how accurate but saw last night where Joyce Vance said they can’t arrest people for preventing ICE in schools or churches by local government officials. Had to do with local and state law coming before federal or something like that. Was late and was dozing off at the time. But sounded like the border czar will have trouble prosecuting local officials.

Also saw where all kinds of churches of different denominations are pushing back. Many churches around the country setting up as sanctuary churches. This may be what his base wants but doesn’t sound like it is as popular in general.

“… Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is denying their agents were involved, spurring confusion about what transpired.

The Chicago Public Schools system confirmed in a statement and an interview Friday that immigration agents had showed up to Hamline but were not allowed inside. “The ICE agents said they were [Department of Homeland Security],” said Fanny Diego Alvarez, chief of family and community engagement for the district.

An ICE spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement that “this was not an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement encounter” and that ICE agents did not visit the school. A Chicago police spokesperson said in a statement that his department received no calls for service to Hamline on Friday.

… Recess was about to start for a class of fifth-graders when an announcement came over the intercom, recalled a 10-year-old student. The girl was interviewed by The Post alongside her mother and grandmother, and spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect her and her family’s safety.

The principal’s voice sounded through the speakers, the girl recalled: “Everybody get in your classroom, get in your classroom. This is a code red, a lockdown. This is not a drill.”

Along with her classmates, the girl hurried to hide in a fourth-grade room on the first floor. Just the day before, she recalled, her teacher had warned the entire class that immigration agents might now be looking to enter schools and interrogate children. If anyone comes up to you, the girl remembered her teacher saying, do not talk to them. You don’t have to talk to them.

….
“Everyone was so scared,” the 10-year-old said, “because we didn’t know if it was a shooter or the immigration police.”
Meanwhile, word was spreading through parent group chats, spurring panic and a frantic scramble to collect children, said a mother at the school, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect her family’s safety.

The mother, who is of Mexican heritage and whose family is here legally, said she found out about rumors of ICE agents around 11:30 a.m. from texts and from her grandmother who sometimes volunteers in the Chicago public school system. The grandmother raced to the school to collect her grandchildren, who all made it home safe, the mother said. …”
