I would agree. My instinct is that many on Team Trump are waiting for a chance to use protests to declare emergency powers but THAT will blow up into real protests. But who knows.

Good point.Das Volk <> "the people" and we know exactly which one of those the fascists always mean.
There is no organized and armed body to fight against the US military. This isn't Afghanistan where the culture, language, backwoods paths, caves, and supply trains all favored the Taliban.Followed shortly by civil war?!?? I can’t believe how close to edge of insanity we are.
ttump et al. are 100% looking for a false flag moment or trumped up "violent left wing mob" to instigate the repression. They're pulling straight from the Mussolini, Hitler, and Putin playbooks.
This is always what folks think but revolutions happen. There are 2.9 million Americans under arms. There are 336 million Americans. Certainly some of those civilians support Trump and certainly some of the military don't but if it was just civilians against military, the military would lose handily. There is no organized and armed body to fight against the US military. Thanks for laying out a completely unrealistic hypothetical. This is always what folks think but revolutions happen. There are 2.9 million Americans under arms. There are 336 million Americans. It's right up there with the US military has no peer and would never lose against a bunch of civilians. Thanks for laying out a completely unrealistic hypothetical.
If a civil war breaks out the U.S. military will fracture. It won’t be ordinary citizens vs the military. It will be the military vs the military. However, even if it also came down to civilians, this country has more guns than people. There is no organized and armed body to fight against the US military. This isn't Afghanistan where the culture, language, backwoods paths, caves, and supply trains all favored the Taliban.
Yeah, hence the qualifier that "a bunch of civilians" had massive advantages in Afghanistan, that they won't here. Also, you claim "if it was just civilians against military, the military would lose handily" is nonsensical; in no scenario is the entire citizenry aligned against the military. The US is effectively the North vs South, once again, except it's dispersed as rural/exburb vs urban. It's right up there with the US military has no peer and would never lose against a bunch of civilians.
