It’s not just that. It’s that he was driven out of those other organizations because of financial impropriety.

Facts? Where are all these people who have accused him? Who carried him to his room? Why don’t these people come forward (and there would be hundreds) if what “sources” claim are true. Usually there are lots of people at parties. Maybe they have come forward and aren’t anonymous anymore but I haven’t seen them.

I’m not making the argument his resume makes him qualified but his military and combat experience makes him more qualified than you are giving him credit for. I’m not sure he will be confirmed but if he is, incompetence will show up quickly. His message of squashing all Woke programs and being merritt based is spot on.
 
Where are all these accusers who say Pete Hegseth has never run a large organization? Why are they anonymous?

I do know of one person who has come forward and said Pete Hegseth was a cheater, a womanizer, and a drunk. His name is *checks notes* Pete Hegseth.
 
Face it, the Pentagon basically runs itself with its immense bureaucracy. Pete can change things on the edges but the Pentagon will keep on chugging along.

This is such a damning clip. ASEAN is the future of our military focus (outside our numerous issues with eastern Europe). Not understanding this alliance should be an automatic disqualifier for anyone interested in being Sec Def.

What specific "liberal" news media are you referring to? Because in case you haven't noticed, your right-wing wealthy buddies have been buying up most of it and turning it conservative. The Washington Post, LA Times, CNN, and even The NY Times have all moved to the right over the election campaign. Twitter is now owned by Trump's current best friend, Elon Musk, and Zuckerberg just announced that he's effectively moving Facebook and Instagram in a MAGA direction. So where is this all-powerful liberal news media that you refer to? Because it has become a pale shadow of right-wing media - you guys now dominate the media in this country, whether you admit it or not.

I don’t think it will. Rooting out wokeness and instilling a new culture would be hard enough but restoring the ship building capability, improving / modernizing our nuclear capability, incorporating the newest forms in technology into our weapons systems, fixing Biden’s broken recruiting, and passing a financial audit are individually massive initiatives. Combined I think it makes it one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Of course, if he picks the right people much can be done.

By this point you could make a powerful argument that Trumpers attacking DEI for "unqualified" or "incompetent" hires is just another example of GOP projection. Judging from Trump's second cabinet it would appear that it's white male Trumpers who aren't qualified for the positions they're getting, and they're getting them only because Republicans vote lock-step for them no matter what.

Yes - maybe the bureaucracy can "basically run" itself - however the Secretary of Defense truly matters. It isn't a meaningless bureaucratic position with no real responsibility. I suggest all listen to that Woodward anecdote.

Ah yes, the same "he really won't be all that bad or cause that much damage" argument used by Zen. It's really telling when Trumpers have to resort to the "he won't be THAT bad - how much damage could he really do?" argument.
 
I went to a conference a couple years ago in NYC. One of the most interesting events was a speaker who was a retired army general.
He was then working for JPMorgan. A lot of the focus was on geopolitical events around the world, cyber security, etc.
He didn’t strike me as a person who was “woke.” But he did speak about DEI.
I’m going to put a lot more credence in what he said than someone who say, never spent a day in the military nor achieved the type of success this man had.
I’ll give one small example. He actually knows what DEI is and what it isn’t.
