Looks like a complete and total waste of time and taxpayer resources to me. I appreciate the kind and friendly interactions, but surely those troops have better things to do than being deployed for photo ops, and surely you and me as taxpayers have better ways to spend our money than on photo ops.
They have been wasting my taxes for years….It will never stop no matter who is in charge…

Only a matter of time before something like this happened. MRAP t-bones SUV in DC neighborhood. Fortunately, no one was killed.

Vehicles like that aren’t designed for a clear sight-lines necessary for navigating city streets. I doubt they can see either traffic lights or crosswalks when within 20’ of an intersection. As you said, it really was just a matter of time.

DC has murder-free week as AG Bondi touts 77 more arrests in federal takeover
Attorney General reports 53 federal arrests plus 24 ICE arrests, 10 guns seized in Wednesday operation

So assuming it's true that DC actually had a murder free week, that is a good thing. The average has been less than two/week so it looks like the military occupation is doing some good.

Or that it is completely random when people murder. It is not as though two people are killed every week, just the average.
Yes, my complement to the military occupation was tongue in cheek, but I'm not sure Zen got my insinuation that a murder free week was anything for Bondi to tout.

Of course, the people who die in federal custody don't count as being murdered. In fact, we'd probably never know if they killed some homeless dudes.

That's what happened in Manila. The cops started killing homeless people. And then the rival drug lords. And so forth.

Good Lord. Lighten up. Unclench those pearls.

I’m clearly not wishing for the death of the President of the United States by improvised explosive device. It was intended to be a tongue in check comment immediately on the heels of the post I made above about wondering why mine sweeping vehicles are in Washington DC since, presumably, the homeless people aren’t planting IEDs along the city streets.

I remember my first trip to DC with my family when I was 11 years old. I grew up in a smallish town in South Carolina. I had been to Discovery Place in Charlotte on school field trips, but I don't think I had ever been to as large a city as DC. We stayed at a hotel somewhere near Dupont Circle and it was really intimidating. I remember watching the evening news and wondering how people could like in a city where there were shootings every night. We drove down Florida Ave. late one night and it was the first time I ever saw a homeless person shitting in an alley.

It wasn't until much later that I learned that, even then, the homicide per capita rate in my hometown was significantly higher than DC's. And that was before the MASSIVE reduction in violent crime in DC over the last few years.

It wasn't until several years later that I lived in the District for several months, had an absolutely incredible time, and never once felt unsafe, even though I did some dumbass things late at night.

It wasn't until 10+ years later that I started regularly visiting DC for business, which is when I discovered a city with exceptional food options, unimaginably clean and efficient public transportation, and the best walking options anywhere outside of Paris.

Trump can go fuck himself. He lived in a gilded palace on 5th Avenue his entire life, living off the proceeds from his racist dad's real estate empire. Homeless people begged for scraps at his doorstep every night, but he never had to even see them. I love New York with a burning passion, but that city, even the area around Trump Tower, is FAR more dangerous and plagued by homelessness than anywhere in DC.

98% of MAGA has never been within 100 miles of a city as dynamic, diverse and interesting as DC. You provincial bumpkins have no idea what you're missing. I love rural America and urban America alike. You assholes are missing out by living your entire lives in places of great natural beauty, but ineluctable cultural decay.
