It would seem so. Is it going to last when the NG leaves, if nothing changes with the police force? Probably not, but it's not surprising that a military presence has would-be criminals taking a break.

NYCfan has been pretty consistent that she doesn't want people posting in a way that encourages, promotes, incites or celebrates violence against public figures. That is a reasonable position.

If said military presence is not in the 7th and 8th ward, where most of the crime occurs, why would you think the "would-be" criminals would take a break.

Seems like pointless virtue signaling to me, but if and when nycfan becomes a moderator again and wants to sanction me for cracking a joke about IED's, I suppose it's her prerogative. If I wanted to actually wish the demise of someone- like, say, Trump- I'd be a hell of a lot more direct and explicit about it.

I'm not sure that's it exactly. I think there's a conventional wisdom that it's somehow wrong to wish death for a person, and I don't get that at all. Especially if we are talking about a globally important person who affects your life but only abstractly. Does anyone really think it would be wrong to say, "I wish Putin would just die?"

And there's an additional wrinkle, which is that many policies have the causation of death as an explicit goal. I'm not even talking about things like elevated pollution levels. It's more like, if you are hoping that the US bombs Iran, then you are hoping for someone to die. That you might not know precisely who doesn't really affect the moral calculus at all.

I found a weed I didn’t like in my wife’s garden so I ripped out the entire garden. She got pissed and started blabbering on about how she designed it to support local wildlife and pollinators and how much time she spent on it and how important it was. Probably said some other hippy bullshit too but it was hard to hear her over the sound of the weed eater and Rogan in my gen 1 AirPods.

Later I explained to her in my all caps voice that there’s not gonna be any more lady libtard nonsense in my house we bought together. Now excuse me. It looks like my Mexican neighbor from Guatemala just kicked a soccer ball into my yard and it’s probably filled with fentanyl. Do you have the number for ICE? Pretty certain it’s the replacement for HUM-V’s that were getting blown to shit in Iraq…..I think MRAP’s have replaced HUM-V’s for units that expect to be in combat. So, many National Guard units have MRAP’s.
