When the cabinet nominations started rolling out - I was shocked and terrified...but after reflection I agree that Trump should have "his" cabinet. The guardrails, corner covers, baby gates - whatever euphemism you want to use - may have ultimately inflicted more harm than good. Trump should have "his" cabinet so the country can see "his" vision in full display. There will be long term ramifications - but we have to reverse course here - and that isn't likely to happen with a "normal" cabinet.

The problem is— as you said— there will be long term ramifications. I’m not so sure there will be many noticeable short term ramifications. So the average American probably doesn’t even realize that those ramifications that emerge down the line were a result of Trump’s actions. They’ll blame whoever is in power at the time and assume a Trump-like figure can fix it.

I am fairly certain if the army started shooting protesters as Trump wanted them to do in 2020 that these would be viewed with "noticeable short term ramifications."
Trump did pay a political price for Covid. How would his government handle a new pandemic while being out of the WHO and with RFK Jr and Dr Oz handling federal government health care oversight?
What about launching tactical nukes? Or invading Panama? Or launching air strikes against targets in Mexico?
What about putting Cheney in front of a "firing squad" - as he said during the campaign he thought warranted?
What about a major inflation spike due to all of his beautiful tariffs?
"it's just talk and bluster" - ok.

"Effective management of nearly 3 million military and civilian personnel, an annual budget of nearly $1 trillion, and alliances and partnerships around the world is a daily test with staggering consequences for the security of the American people and our global interests.

"Mr. Hegseth has failed, as yet, to demonstrate that he will pass this test. But as he assumes office, the consequences of failure are as high as they have ever been."

Occasionally Moscow Mitch stumbles into the truth.

Trump fires 17 inspectors-general in late night purge.

Nothing says you’re serious about rooting out government waste and fraud than firing the government officials responsible for rooting out waste and fraud

This is so beyond the absurd it’s charting new territory. Can’t begin to wrap my mind around it. Doesn’t seem real. Just 🤬🤬🤬
Between the end of the 2020 election and some time within the past two years, the prospect of Trump being re-elected didn’t seem real to me. It seemed that we as a country (for the most part) had learned a hard lesson with Trump. But then it started to seem real only because it dawned on me how uninformed, misinformed, disinformed, and sometimes willfully ignorant and obtuse so many people are. But it was still beyond absurd and I couldn’t begin to wrap my head around it.
