My gosh, people on this thread are saying RFK jr could be a good pick? What? There’s no way to bridge this divide.

That’s what has become obvious to me. Pubs don’t want and will never accept a bridge. The shit they spew about what Dems need to do to reach them is just that, shit.

Dems should do like Pubs and just go scorched earth.

Keep in mind, these are "moderate" Pubs too.

Yeah, this is definitely the guy we want in charge of public health! Seems like a totally normal, levelheaded, even keeled kind of guy capable of making reasonable and rational decisions as it pertains to the health of 300+ million people.

My candidate has hit a pot hole. which is worse

Gaetz as AG
Gabbard as DNI
Kennedy as HHS

Has to be gaetz, then kennedy, then gabbard. Hegseth looks like a homerun comparatively.

This isn’t a Democrat/Republican thing. RFK is no Republican. He’s a Democrat-turned-Independent.
You’re right—it’s not a matter of party. It’s a matter of fitness for the position.

If all you’re concerned about is food safety and nutrition guidelines, I can see you supporting him for head of FDA (although I’d vehemently oppose even that, because he clearly has no clue what he’s talking about).

But he’s being put up as head of HHS, which oversees the FDA in addition to things like Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, the NIH, and a whole bunch of other health-focused governmental agencies.

He’s a fucking idiot with no business at the helm of such an important institution, and you’re a fucking idiot for not understanding the scope of what you’re advocating for.

“It’s simply that Matt Gaetz has a very long, steep hill to get across the finish line,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer (R., N.D.). “And it will require the spending of a lot of capital, and you just have to ask: if you could get him across the finish line, was it worth the cost?”

Trump’s team skips FBI background checks for some Cabinet picks

“… Trump and his allies believe the FBI system is slow and plagued with issues that could stymie the president-elect’s plan to quickly begin the work of implementing his agenda, people briefed on the plans said. Critics say the intrusive background checks sometimes turn up embarrassing information used to inflict political damage.

Ultimately, the president has the final authority on who he nominates and decides to share intelligence with, regardless of the established protocol set in the wake of World War II to make sure those selections don’t have unknown foreign ties or other issues that could raise national security concerns.

But circumventing background checks would be bucking a long-established norm in Washington. It also reflects Trump’s deep mistrust of the national security establishment, which he derides as the Deep State. Sources say he has privately questioned the need for law enforcement background checks.

Dan Meyer, a national security attorney in Washington, DC, said the incoming Trump administration “doesn’t want harmony.” They “don’t want the FBI to coordinate a norm; they want to hammer the norm,” he said. …”

(Cont’d)

“… Gabbard notably met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria in 2017, and said in 2019 that he was “not an enemy of the United States.”

In early 2022, she echoed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rationale for the country’s invasion of Ukraine, pinning the blame not on Moscow but on the Biden administration’s failure to acknowledge “Russia’s legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine’s becoming a member of NATO” — a popular strain of thought in some right-wing circles.

In addition to the confirmation process, FBI background checks are used to vet nominees for a security clearance, which an attorney general nominee is required to have to do the job.

As president, Trump could bypass the process and order Gaetz to be granted a security clearance, as he did in his first term to grant a clearance to his son-in-law Jared Kushner after the approval languished amid questions about potential conflicts of interest.

Trump ordered clearances to be granted to about 25 people whose applications were initially denied for possible national security concerns, CNN previously reported. …”

Background on RJK Jr’s involvement in anti-vax movement in Samoa that led to a deadly measles outbreak:

I think nearly all evidence suggests it will be substantially more chaotic and dysfunctional.
And when it all implodes they'll

LOL. I'll believe that four GOP Senators have enough spine to challenge the whims of Dear Leader when (if) it actually happens. My guess is they'll rationalize supporting him and these other loons somehow, much as Lindsey Graham did a couple of days ago. Although it would be funny if Gaetz didn't get confirmed and couldn't return to his House seat. Of course Trump will probably just appoint him as a permanent "temporary" acting AG and let it go at that.
