It’s fine to call out the hypocrisy. But in no way is the Republican Party now the radical left.
I know, it was tongue in cheek based upon their sudden lionization of RF freaking K Jr., and now...Bernie Sanders. The same people screaming about how price controls are Marx reincarnated are now all of a sudden saying that capping credit card interest rates is "the top priority of the new Congress." That's so laughably absurd.

Hell, I am absolutely all for removing all traces of high fructose corn syrup from our foods and beverages and replacing them with pure cane sugar. But that would require Republicans to support removal of tariffs on imported sugar and eliminate subsidies to corn farmers, so of course it won’t happen.
Follow the money

Come on, people. If we’re going down (and I don’t think that’s inevitable, although a lot of suffering probably is), let’s not do it by destroying the constitution ourselves. There’s way too much of that talk from the other side. The only way we can win is by fighting for the rule of law. If we win but the rule of law is destroyed, we won’t have won at all.

Sure, ok, but why? There isn’t much credible evidence to suggest cane sugar is healthier. “All natural cane sugar” is a nice bit of marketing, and appears healthier in a similar vane as “spring water”.

Oh I'm not arguing that cane sugar is significantly healthier than HFCS. I'm just saying that it's more natural. So if Republicans are all about wanting to "clean up" our foods, here is a good place to start. And anyhow, my overarching point is that Republicans have always been enormous liars when they call themselves "pro small government/pro-limited regulation/etc." They love Big Government. The bigger, the better.

Where in the hell did this sudden conservative concern about the quality of our nation's food production come from? These people have never gave a shit about all the crap that's in our food.

I think you can literally get them to believe/support anything, as long as it's coming from personalities (like Trump and RFK Jr.) that they identify with for whatever reasons. They'd even support a 90% tax rate on the wealthy (like we had during the 50s) tomorrow as long as Trump just said to do so. Then be back to wanting his 15% or 16% proposed rate for corporations/wealthy/whatever the next day if he changed his mind.

That is absolutely 100% accurate. In less than a week we've got conservatives now believing in things like price controls and naturally-sourced organics! Who knows what we can slip past them next. The sky is the limit!

Next thing you know, they're all going to be shopping at Whole Foods and wearing shirts that say "Yeah, I'm a soy boy! Deal!"

I mean, what in the world!

I think it's partly due to the overlap of the health and wellness / QAnon / MAGA communities, but more than anything it's supporting whatever Dear Leader and his inner circle support, as you said. RFK Jr genuflected to and aligned himself with their cult leader so now his ideas and projects have consequently become priorities in MAGA land. If, at some point, Trump jettisons RFK Jr then the issues he champions will also be cast off by MAGA.

We're going to have them marching in Pride parades at this rate.
Lol. In all seriousness, I know you are a conservative (or at least previously identified that way; honestly, to me, it seems like you've fully come over to the dark side now), but conservatism is nothing more than the value of power and hierarchy (they call it "liberty," but that's subterfuge). Given what I've seen you state here, I think it fairly clear you see this now, but they literally have no actual ideology or values other than power and hierarchy. This is why they can change their perspective on issues on the drop of a dime. As long as it serves hierarchy, in their mind.

They were for the Constitution and democracy when the nation's default demographics provided them enough power automatically to preserve hierarchy. Now that those demographics aren't so much in favor by default, they are all on board with dictatorship and autocracy. Because despite all their bluster about patriotism and the Founders and "constitutional conservatism" and what not, they understand - at least the dumb ones do on an instinctive level - that this is now what's needed to preserve the hierarchy.

I'd be on board, but cane sugar harvesting has a very long tail of abuse. Corn syrup isn't great, but it's a harvester and a bunch of processing.

Very, very well-said.

I'd say that I identify as a conservative liberal- the 'conservative' being an adjective and the 'liberal' is a noun. I still believe that big, rapid change isn't always good, but I firmly believe in equality and progress. I believe in greatly limiting government regulation when it comes to individual freedoms and liberties; in particular, personal choices around healthcare, marriage, consensual sex partners, what to eat, what to read, etc. I believe in greatly expanding government regulation when it comes to protecting the environment, protecting workers, protecting vulnerable groups, and providing a helping hand to those in need. I believe that paying taxes is patriotic but that I do not owe the government one more cent than I am legally obligated to pay. I believe in low income tax rates and broadening the tax base. I believe in having the strongest, most well-equipped, most lethal military force in the world that helps maintain peace through strength. I believe in providing aid and resources to our democratic allies and friends abroad in their times of need. I believe in the rule of law. I believe that America's strength is in our diversity and that we should have *both* strong, secure borders but also a highly-efficient and welcoming system of legal immigration so that the best, brightest, and hardest working in the world can come here to the land of opportunity and make their lives- and ours- better. I believe that in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, nobody should go hungry or homeless through no fault of their own. I believe that every able-bodied soul should work, but that we also have a duty and an obligation to provide a helping hand up to those in our society who are trying hard and working hard but who struggle to get ahead.

I left the Republican Party and the conservative movement when it abandoned every single solitary one of those ideals.

All seems fairly reasonable. This is pretty much American liberalism.

It came from body building forums and then was given a massive platform by Joe Rogan. Been bubbling up since the early 2010s, probably.

Ah, yes, like the "Liver King" weirdo.

But even that doesn't fully explain it. Granted, social media is social media and often skews our perspective on things. I imagine most Trump supporters probably don't give a shit.
