The one thing I’ve seen Kennedy propose that I would be all for is ending pharmaceutical ads on tv and radio. It is probably too late since so many people get their news and infotainment online anyway, but I always thought it was a mistake when the Clinton Administration permitted pharma ads back in the 1990s.

OTOH, that would almost immediately starve cable tv of a key source of ad revenue.

But that is not at all worth having Kennedy having any say over US health policy.

But how else will I know what lowers my A1C in a little pill with a big story to tell?

They also hate weaponization of government so much that they are appointing a guy to headbb the FBI who has previously invoked the Fifth Amendment before a grand jury.

Also, the guy's 2020 portrait is Manson-esque. I don't know enough about human physiology to assess it. Are there people whose eyes naturally look sociopathic? I don't want to slam on the guy if this is just how he looks, but to me it looks like he's a crazy man.

I am scared to give my comment on

Political realignment happening before our eyes!

I am not sure but I think this realignment may have been ongoing for a few years. My brother who only watches Fox and religious shows, has been talking about this a lot the last couple of years. I don’t know where he got it from but there is a fair amount of overlap between food health and conspiracy theories and Republicans have found a home for conspiracy theorists.

And starving Fox News of revenue

Speaking of pharma ads, the stuff I watch on non-streaming TV, which is basically only news and sports, is full of those. Makes me feel old.

Also that can’t be a good sign for college football.

When you go very far left (natural health to the extreme) and to the very far right (climate denier, chemtrails, etc) - those paths on the circle eventually meet, which is where we find RFK and Trump. Mistrust of the experts. The overlap of the "do your own research" vein diagram.

I.e. people who convince themselves they're very special little boys and girls.

That's humans' reason to be. There is not a philosophy or religion on earth that doesn't exalt man's place on earth and in the universe. Even those who speak of subjugation to a divine power presupposes that any such power has a reason to be interested in them and offer them sustenance, guidance and protection. Considering the age and size of the universe ,I tend to feel such arrogance is a bit undeserved.

Oh, I know. Like most here, I grew up in the crimson depths of evangelical land. The entire ethos of the place was I am special, you are special, we are special [but really I’m most special]. Ttump and rfkj have that extra special layer brought on by having never felt loved, and/or antisocial disorder.

I think as get into the Trump 47 term, we’re going to view the Trump 45 term sort of like how we viewed the George W. Bush years during/after the Trump 45 term.
I think there is a pretty strong possibility that that is correct, although I do think that a potential silver lining is that for as chaotic and generally ineffective as the first Trump administration was outside of the successful implementation of the tax cuts, there were at least mostly reasonably competent adults in the room in the cabinet positions and in key administration positions. This time around, there will be exactly zero- maybe one if you consider Marco Rubio. MAGA is extremely effective as an oppositional out party, but extremely ineffective as an actual governing party. There are going to be so many unequivocally unqualified and outright disqualified people in almost every administrative position in Trump 2.0 that I think there is a good bet that there will be tons of unimaginably stupid incompetence. That’s not to say that they won’t do some damage – in fact I am sure they will. But I think that a possible saving grace for the next four years is that this administration is going to be so full of so many actually come up legitimately stupid people who are not good at getting anything done other than performative political theater for 30% of the US population.

Reckon PawPaw and MawMaw are going to be in a whole world of hurt when they go buy their Co-Colar and Nabs at Wally World.

This just pisses me off. Of course that is that case. But where were these stories/journalists/companies pre election?
They wagered that they could easily pressure Trump while in office to pursue his policies that are favorable to them and not the ones that are unfavorable to them.

Will probably pay off. Now that Trump is in power, he cares about power players only. That’s the only thing he will be susceptible to.

Same reason we will get RFK using the bully pulpit against vaccines but none of the other stuff that actually challenges powerful corporate interests. If RFK manages to make our food safer and ban pharma bans, I’ll eat my hat.

The real purpose of Donald Trump’s controversial, unqualified Cabinet picks is to allow the president-elect to recreate an “imperial presidency” in which he has complete and total control, legendary Watergate reporter Bob Woodward told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Monday.

Trump wants to utterly destroy the system of government and is essentially saying with his inexperienced Cabinet choices ― such as Fox News’ Pete Hegseth for defense secretary ― that, “I can do whatever I want, it’s up to me alone,” explained Woodward.

“Having written three books on Trump, spent hours with him, the goal is to give him all the say, all the power,” the veteran journalist suggested.

The “check engine light has just gone off and we’ve pulled into the wrong store,” Woodward concluded. “It makes no sense and it’s a form of giving his middle finger to the American people.”
