My mom just put in her notice to retire at 63. She’s planning on buying a health insurance policy on the exchange to bridge to Medicare. Loves Trump. Don’t have the heart to tell her those policies might not be around much longer, and they’ll be way more expensive if they are.
You should tell her.

And, suggest she hold off on retiring until she’s eligible for Medicare.

Surely no one takes such an offer seriously? Only if he is confirmed as SecDef will he get sober?

You’re impressed he volunteered that (when you were probably working really hard not to inquire about the New Yorker report)?

Don’t we all view SecDef as so important that a raging alcohol abuse problem is disqualifying (rather than motivation to try to get sober)?

Trump is just such an unserious person. Good, Lord.
I remember the first go around the excuse was, “I know he’s an idiot but I trust he will put good people around him.”
Seems quaint now.

Yep. Trump has never had "good people" around him, even in his first term most top-flight political and administrative talent refused to work with him, and the problem steadily grew worse throughout his administration. Part of the issue with Trump isn't just that he surrounds himself with second and third-rate stooges and crooks that he values more for their blind loyalty and brown nosing instead of their competency and ability to do the job, he also has difficulty in attracting top-level talent to work for him. And no, I don't consider Marco Rubio top-flight talent, although compared to most of his other appointments he does appear sterling in comparison.

Honestly I was nervous how the second term could go. But it's starting to seem clear they will go with terrible intent but still be so damn messy at their own efforts that it will really frustrate Americans. Some people will definitely get harmed but I'm a little more hopeful that it's going to be so bad that it might end up hurting the MAGA movement in a big way

That should be an Onion piece.

Where do they find these attorneys? That letter could have been written by Stephen Cheung. And the threat of litigation is laughable.
I think the purpose is to frighten and intimidate reporters and news media organizations into silence, or into just playing along with the administration. And sadly it may well work, given how craven most of our media already appears to be regarding all things Trump.
