“Controlling the puppet” isn’t the right way to think about a Trump presidency. Trump very much has a mind of his own and doesn’t let anyone pull his strings. It’s more like Trump is an angry bull stomping around and charging at things and people like Miller are waving red capes at him to get his attention.
 
In my lifetime there have been several presidential assassination attempts ...

I was a 12 yo 6th grader when JFK was assassinated. When the principal came in to inform us and escort us to the cafeteria to watch the tv news reports, one student stood up smiling and clapped. I was confused at the time, but as I came to know him as an adult, I realized he was a bigot and I have little doubt he is a Trumper today.

At 12 yo I could not appreciate the profound effect that JFK's assassination had on America and the death of Camelot. Obama revived Camelot but the revival ended when he left office.

I have no vivid recollection where I was when a Charles Manson loony tried to assassinate Gerald Ford. The news reporting focused more on Squeaky Fromme .

There was another attempt on Ford by a woman a couple of weeks later. She was a loon; the news reporting was short lived because that woman was an ordinary run of the mill loon unlike the Charles Manson loon.

The assassination attempt on Reagan was a big story in the media because Reagan was hit by a bullet and the would be assassin's motivation was to impress Jodie Foster. Reagan's press secretary, James Brady, was shot and received a severe brain injury.

His injury inspired his wife and others to push for control which led to passage of the Brady Bill ( no one referred as the Big Beautiful Brady Bill ) despite strong opposition from the NRA

The Trump assassination attempt would have had the same short lived news coverage as the two attempts on Ford back in the day, but Trump exploited the event throughout his campaign and kept the story alive.

For the record, I have not celebrated any presidential assassination attempt. Other than Trump exploiting the attempt on him, I am glad he was not made a martyr that day.

It really was a startling moment in recent history. It had been a while since there was an attempt on a presidential candidate or President.
Also think he won the Presidency on that day.

Judging by the standards used for the "second" so called attempt. someone tried to assassinate Obama. A guy actually fired shots at the White House. Course, Obama was out of town but it was still an attempt. Trump was well out of sight so it seems about the same except we know Obama's guy would actually pull the trigger.

I reckon they have a lot to do to try and catch up to right wingers assassinating JFK, bombing the federal building (and a daycare!) in Oklahoma City, bombing the Atlanta Olympics, trying to assassinate presidential candidate Trump, killing a bunch of church goers in Charleston, killing a bunch of Latinos in El Paso, killing a bunch of kindergartners everywhere, killing fourth of July parade goers in Winnetka, killing a bunch of Black people at a grocery store in Buffalo, and assassinating multiple lawmakers in Minnesota!

The American right has created a milieu in which violence is baked into nearly all political discourse in our country. It's not surprising that it would show up in any political discussion at this point in our nation's history, either accepted as an unfortunate part of how things are done or specifically to be refuted.

You left out mass killing at Pittsburg synagogue……conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Governor………George Zimmerman killing Trayvon Martin……the right-wing couple that killed two Las Vegas police officers and a civilian in 2014…….

Cherry pick much? I could come up with a longer list of left wing violence in just the last 5 years. Also, Oswald a right winger? He was a communist who spent time in the USSR.

These would be considered extremist and not your everyday right wing conservative correct..And surely make up a small minority of the right…Much like Muslims have the same problem as well as many other cultures and religions around the world…
