It's only about half as bad as it appears to be. Only one R had the guts to not vote for this monstrosity.

WASHINGTON (AP) — With a push from President Donald Trump, House Republicans sent a GOP budget blueprint to passage Tuesday, a step toward delivering his “big, beautiful bill” with $4.5 trillion in tax breaks and $2 trillion in spending cuts despite a wall of opposition from Democrats and discomfort among Republicans

...........................

The vote was 217-215, with a single Republican and all Democrats opposed, and the outcome was in jeopardy until the gavel.

By their own (sketchy) accounting the GOP plan that passed last night would add nearly $20 Trillion to the National Debt over the next decade.

Let me get this straight. By this vote, they are planning a 2 trillion a year deficit for ten years. That's the number........that they, the Republican Parting is planning on and voted for.

I don't think we need to let them forget that this is the number they voted for and if it comes in any less then that by some miracle, then I guess the Democrats are to blame.

So after all the spending cuts they are making, not to mention the crap they are putting the country thru, they are still coming up with 2 trillion in deficits? What does that tell us, and what should it tell the country when its pointed out?

From a political point of view, this ain't hard.

Much like plane crashes and near misses, it's price we have to pay in order to own those goddamn libs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the $2T figure is only IF they find $2T in savings first. So it requires a gutting of major social services to even get to a $2T per year deficit.

I don't know if it's $2T in savings, but I do think the $2T deficit figure is post-Medicaid slashing. nycfan would know better than me.

Not 100% sure, but pretty sure the 2T is after the slash and burn. That's my point I am exactly getting at. WTF moment if there ever was one.

It is an argument the moderates seem to buy … but the GOP moderates always seem to cave on the budget deals … so the strategy probably will be to placate the deficit hawks for now to get their votes.

I know it's what they're called, but there are no GOP "moderates" anymore, certainly not in the sense that the term would have meant even thirty or forty years ago. There is only a divide between batshit crazy, extreme to the nth degree, all-in-on Trump Republicans and hard-right, warhawk, cut government to the bone, but are somewhat wary of Trump and serve in lighter red or purplish districts and do need to worry about reelection, and still have a little independence left Republicans. And it's not a big difference, really. The real GOP centrist or mildly conservative moderates went the way of the dinosaurs at least thirty or more years ago.

It's hard to believe Congress will pass the type of Medicaid cuts needed to satisfy the budget resolution.
They will if Dear Leader and Elon demand it, and what's more both they and right-wing media like Fox will just blatantly lie to their base and tell them that Biden's budget deficit or some other crap excuse forced them to do it. And much of their base will likely buy it even while they or someone they know dies because their Medicaid or food stamps or some other vital necessity got the axe.

As to the politics of this: and I know everyone thinks there's a 90% chance or more that the Republicans will need Democrats, but the real question is how to play this to put the Democrats in the best position when the time comes.

Therefore, the more Republicans that peel off the better. Who are the weakest Republicans on this? I suspect its the Chip Roy crowd or deficit hawks. So if were the Democrats, I would be crowing ever day that after their cutting, the Republicans are still coming up with a massive 2 Trillion a year deficit. And I'm not sure, but that may actually be worse then where we are at now?

Perhaps, the Republicans need to answer why they have a problem?

The deficit at end of FY 2024 was 1.8 Trillion.

I see they just put up that there would be 110 billion in new border money. That comes on top of the 20 billion voted for with the Israel/Ukraine deal. Whew, that border my bankrupt us yet.

I think it is $2T on top of the current deficit spending. If I am reading incorrectly, I am happy to be corrected.

That these same people so proudly call themselves Christians is appalling, even if expected. Like their leader, they claim to worship Christ but apparently have never heard of the Sermon on the Mount or anything else that Christians supposedly believe in. Instead of compassion there is cruelty, instead of mercy there is malice, and instead of humanity there is hatred.
