In fairness, it is possible no one who voted for or against the bill had read more than whatever action their committee prepared, if that.

These massive bills rarely get a comprehensive read from anyone. But it certainly didn't help that they were throwing it together haphazardly at the last minute, with only lies substituting for mooring principles.

No way. Musk is complaining because he thinks he can take trillions out of what they have proposed. He thinks because he laid off 70% of the Twitter people he can just do the same for government people. He is not right about this in any way.

Only because Musk actually has ideas he cares about (even if he is an idiot about those ideas) whereas Trump only cares about image and branding.

Trump wants to pass the big beautiful bill -- not because he cares about any of the stuff in the bill -- but because he wants a win that he can brag about on TV and in social media.

So you think the bill that passed the House is good? Aren't you in favor of cutting the deficit? This bill does the opposite.

There were rumors that Tesla's board was going to replace Elon. One wonders if that sobered him up. Sober, he's annoying but not out of his fucking mind. I think.

I’m saying Musk is an idiot because he hates the bill due to the fact he thinks he would be able to balance the budget. He is complaining about the bill due to the fact it adds to the deficit. I would love a balanced budget but we are so far from that, it’s totally unrealistic to set that up as a measure of success. The man is an idiot.

He is right that the Republican bill will add trillions to the deficit, largely thanks to costly and unnecessary tax cuts. You're certainly correct that his preference would be to much more deeply slash government spending.

We are kind of hosed with our tax policies. 40% of the country doesn’t pay taxes. The tax bracket for the rich is too low. There is no appetite to change it.

Link for Musk wanting to balance the budget? Musk is complaining because the bill shows no fiscal restraint whatsoever, which isn't the same thing.

Deficits are linear. A $2T deficit is more financially crippling than a $1T deficit. You're of course both-siding this, but the reality is that only the GOP has an appetite to explode the deficit at this stage in the business cycle. And this deficit explosion is entirely gratuitous and irresponsible.

When they pulled Musk’s handpicked choice to lead NASA late last week, it was a sign of a power shift … Elon pissed off a ton of people in the Trump Admin o er a handful of months and seemed unaware how tenuous his position as Uncle Elon could be with Trump.

Where do you get the idea that 40% of Americans don’t pay taxes?
  • If you have a paying job, you pay FISA taxes and might pay state income taxes
  • If you buy things, you likely pay sales tax
  • If you buy gas, you pay fuel taxes
  • If you have a vehicle, you likely pay an annual registration fee and/or property taxes
  • If you own property, you pay property tax
  • If you rent property, property taxes are included in your rent (the landlord is including them in your rent)
  • If you have a cell phone, landline, or cable, you pay taxes
  • If you stay in a hotel, you pay taxes
  • If you eat in a restaurant, you pay taxes
So, who are those 40% of Americans who don’t pay taxes?

The thread is about the federal budget. Recent conversations have focused on federal deficit. Pretty obvious what was implied.
