Because we'd get arrested by the Gestapo and/or fired from our jobs and while, yes, we're not getting paid we will eventually and for most, we can't afford to just take action and we'd have a difficult time finding other employment bc the job market sucks shit.

Government employees - particularly DOD civilian employees - are "discouraged" from participating in demonstrations against the government. We get emails all the damn time about protests and while they can't tell us not to go, most of the time at the end of the email there's some sort of cryptic message about safety and duty to say something if we see something illegal. This is particularly true with this new admin and DUI Hire Kegseth.

Thune said he didn't want to go that route bc when Dems retake the majority they could use it to push through their agenda.

Also, if they did use it, it would be an admission that they are at fault for the shutdown and that's not gonna happen. Moreover, trump is passing the buck bc his numbers are falling so he's blaming the "crazy dems" for being unreasonable and the senate pubs for being weak. It's a false show of strength - as it always is with him - when he said he'd use it.
