Caving on a deal to end the shutdown with no guarantees from Republicans literally five days after the country confirmed that they were blaming the GOP for the shutdown is the most Democrat move ever.

Fuck these useless politicians.
Chuck Schumer saying now, "However this vote turns out, this fight will and must continue. Democrats must fight". What an out of tune, useless twat waffle. We've been begging for the party to show some fight and the minute it gets hard, they cave. Good luck finding folks with the stomach to continue the fight Chuckie boy. Perhaps pspsps is right, this is the death knell for the party.

Agreed. If they were going to cave without an agreement to extend Obamacare subsidies then they never should have made this fight, imo. They're not going to get any credit for doing so and will simply get all the blame for the hardships and if the subsidies are cut then people will blame them instead of Republicans. Congressional Democrats are just so unprepared for this moment. I mean, you hold out this long for the subsidies and then fold and approve a budget without a guarantee that the subsidies will stay?

Yeah this would be an absolutely terrible, stupid move. The Dems are WINNING the shutdown. Trump is calling to end the filibuster and getting egg on his face for refusing to pay SNAP. Absolutely insane time for Dems to cave without getting anything real. It makes no political sense. None.

If Schumer is a no vote, who's running the caucus? Did he endorse the talks that led to this abomination? If not, is there a rogue faction running amok in the Dem caucus? You can bet your sweet ass McConnel would've never let this shit show play out on the MAGA side. He ruled them with an iron fist.

What a fucking shitshow young folks are having to deal with? No wonder the democrats don’t have a functioning party? Get all the old folks including Schumer and Jeffries the fuck out and don’t run anymore candidates over 50 years old and I am 67! I hate this Democratic Party for their feckless leadership. Tim Kaine should never hold another office nor a press conference! I hate their lack of optimism. The only thing more catchy than enthusiasm is the lack of it and that’s where we are tonight!

I think this could be the final straw for the AOC types. The Democratic Party is about to be replaced by something that might be called the Democratic Party but will be in name only. Trump destroyed the already wobbly Republican Party and we are about to see the same process happen on the other side of the aisle. I have little insight into what that will look like but I know the folks in my demo who have been running the party for decades have ensured their legacy will be reflected upon with a scowl.

These are people who in many cases are so old, and have been in public office for so long, that they have lived most of their adult lives in DC and not in their home states. They've clearly lost touch with their constituent's desires or with what is happening to the country outside the beltway, and I've thought that for a good while. They also are still mentally living in the 1980s or 1990s or thereabouts when there were still some reasonable Republicans you could cut deals with (a Howard Baker, a Bob Dole). Those days are long gone and yet the aging party leadership refuses to see it. And they're going to fight like hell to cling to their power and perks because that's all they've known, and they're loathe to give it up. I honestly believe that for some of them the thought of retiring from Congress, giving up the good life they have in DC with a staff to run errands and take care of them and cater to them, and returning to their home states makes them shudder. But at this point that's what needs to happen, because they just aren't up to this moment, imo.

That’s no fucking excuse for cowardice!
ETA Get them out of DC then! I sent Tim Kaine a donation when he was struggling and now he’s an effing MAGA licker!?!
None of them were even up for reelection what a bunch of fucking rubes waiting on some “future concessions” dems prove again they are cowards and not willing to fight! They got a fucking pinky swear! I’m sick of this whole game.

It is if you never really had much of a spine to begin with, and you've grown complacent and don't have a clue as to how angry and frustrated many Democrats are beyond the beltway. I'm not defending them, in fact I'm saying that the party desperately needs new and more dynamic leadership that grasps what is happening to the country and can do a much better job of explaining it. There are some who do understand - an AOC, for example. And here in NC we have a young, dynamic Democratic State Chairperson, Anderson Clayton, who is doing fine work in trying to turn the party's fortunes around in NC. But guys like Schumer or Kaine are never going to get it.
