I will note here for posterity's sake, that Obama is not entirely blameless here. He sets some precedents here (e.g. questionably legal drone attacks on terrorists) that "took the first step down this journey of a thousand miles". It was hard to foresee that a future Trump admin would just teleport the rest of the thousand miles, but still, a lot of people at the time advised that maybe it was best not to break the seal on this sort of thing, because it didn't take too much imagination to see how it could go wrong in the future.

What are you referring to? The drone strikes during war?

The shooting down of Yamamoto during WWII has been cited as a precedent.

I have little doubt that there were earlier, smaller and perhaps much more ad hoc attempts.

There were a number of incidents in the Pacific in WWII in which survivors of sinkings were killed in the water. Both sides did it at times. Here's one famous example --

Another one --

All of which contributed to the restrictions in the Geneva Conventions, which Trump now seems determined to ignore.

I meant more in the lines of a targeted assassination of a foreign leader.

Nope. I said that Congress implied that war crimes had already been committed AND were telling military personnel not to follow orders.

Like I said earlier, and mean it this time, I give up. To me this is an obvious issue, but clearly most others either a) don't see an issue or b) want to say 'but, but, but... what about Trump".

What are you talking about, what about Trump. Isn't that what we are talking about?

The strikes in question took place in September, meaning that the members of Congress likely ALREADY KNEW THAT UNQUESTIONABLY ILLEGAL ORDERS HAD BEEN CARRIED OUT. Even if they only found out from the WaPo investigatives, and I doubt that, they would have been contacted for comment well in advance of publication.

Give it up, dude. You're wrong again.

No need to pivot. The increasing of temperature is obvious and, among other things, the reason our military personnel would be put at higher risk. If they're committing war crimes and nobody is doing anything about it, someone needs to stop them, right?
Yes. Among the people trying to stop them were Mark Kelly, Elissa Slotkin, etc.

Where were these Dems and their concern for murder when we droned Qasem Soleimani? Last time I checked, Soleimani hadn't killed anyone and was never given a trial.
Soleimani was a uniformed soldier in another nation’s military and was providing direct support to an opposition force in an ongoing armed conflict. That situation isn’t even close to comparable. It may have been inadvisably stupid, tactically or strategically a mistake, or the greatest thing to happen in war since the invention of the tank, but it wasn’t likely a war crime, which is a pretty key distinction.

Trump gets punked by a real bully on the world stage, time to order a ego soothing kinetic strike on some defenseless third world fishermen/smugglers.

These people are sick. These are war crimes.

I also seem to recall that the Dems did take a dim view of Trump having him killed. Am I mistaken? This is more what I remember.
