North Carolina teacher pay now among nation’s lowest, new report shows

North Carolina falls to 43rd in teacher pay according to a new report. An NC bill and CMS-approved raises aim to boost salaries and keep educators in the state.

The line I found interesting: “Meanwhile, South Carolina, now ranked 36th nationally for teacher pay, is also moving forward with pay reform.” So NC is 43rd and SC is 36th?? 😐
The NC House, although controlled by Republicans, has proposed giving teachers some substantial pay raises over the past several years, and of course our two Democratic governors have also consistently pushed for significant pay raises, but they've always been blocked by the NC State Senate, where Phil Berger rules the roost and his contempt for state employees - and especially teachers - is well-known. As long as Berger remains the Majority Leader of the State Senate - and there's no signs of him stepping down and thanks to extreme gerrymandering the GOP likely has a permanent majority in the legislature - then it is very unlikely that NC teachers or other state employees will ever get substantial raises, especially veteran teachers.

As previously noted

None of those statistics matter to Ryan Walters or most of the other politicians who control Oklahoma's public school system. Forcing schools to teach a White Christian Nationalist ideology is all that matters, along with a big dose of grifting from public school money and owning the libs on social media is what passes as education in Oklahoma.
