I have been a retired State employee 10 years I have received Zero Cola raises . I have received one year bonuses of a few hundred dollars on occasion . But my retirement pay this month is identical to 2015 It was Never that way. Please note I am more concerned about active Teachers than me-but just a note on how unprecedented this MAGA legislature isThe NC House, although controlled by Republicans, has proposed giving teachers some substantial pay raises over the past several years, and of course our two Democratic governors have also consistently pushed for significant pay raises, but they've always been blocked by the NC State Senate, where Phil Berger rules the roost and his contempt for state employees - and especially teachers - is well-known. As long as Berger remains the Majority Leader of the State Senate - and there's no signs of him stepping down and thanks to extreme gerrymandering the GOP likely has a permanent majority in the legislature - then it is very unlikely that NC teachers or other state employees will ever get substantial raises, especially veteran teachers.
I have friends who live in Rockingham County (Berger's home base) and they said that Berger has been overheard on multiple occasions disparaging teachers and state employees generally. One comment I've been told that he has made is that he just doesn't "understand the mentality" of people who actually want to work for the state for low pay. That's what North Carolina state employees, including teachers, are up against as long as Berger controls the state senate.I have been a retired State employee 10 years I have received Zero Cola raises . When McCroy first arived in office he had a little stump speech in front of DHHS Headquarters where I worked .He called State employees " seat warmers'.........I have friends who live in Rockingham County (Berger's home base) and they said that Berger has been overheard on multiple occasions disparaging teachers and state employees generally. That’s funny considering his son has been a state employee for most of his adult life. Granted, a state employee with a great deal of power.I have friends who live in Rockingham County (Berger's home base) and they said that Berger has been overheard on multiple occasions disparaging teachers and state employees generally. I also suspect that his son is probably into some major grifting, as are most MAGA pols these days. When his dad first lifted the cap on charter schools Phil Jr. tried to get into opening a charter in Rockingham County, which failed to even open. But I don't doubt that he's used his dad's connections to build his own political career and profit from his connections as much as possible. That’s funny considering his son has been a state employee for most of his adult life. I expect the GOP House voted for teacher pay raises BECAUSE they KNEW Phil Berger would quash them.I have been a retired State employee 10 years I have received Zero Cola raises . And the fact that, as a State Senator, Berger Sr. himself should understand and appreciate public service. Of course, that's not why he entered into politics though. That’s funny considering his son has been a state employee for most of his adult life. Granted, a state employee with a great deal of power.
Judges in State govt have a nice multiplier (compared to other State employees )in calculating a pension . Phils boy got appt to an Administrative Law judge by Daddy. Those were not considered real judges in the pension system After baby boy was in his position a few years Daddy had the law changed to include those jobsI also suspect that his son is probably into some major grifting, as are most MAGA pols these days.
