Let me clarify. I wasn't referring to Trump. I was referring to people such as Putin or Kim Jong Un being able to manipulate Trump into doing their bidding without need of warfare. What ever does smart have to do with Trump?

That makes more sense.Let me clarify. I wasn't referring to Trump. I was referring to people such as Putin or Kim Jong Un being able to manipulate Trump into doing their bidding without need of warfare.
For me, it's a significant bridge further than even I expected for us to attempt to actually benefit from the invasion of an ally. I expected us to let Russia do what they like in Ukraine. I didn't expect that we would swoop in and steal the riches of the country as part of the dividing of the spoils of war. What changed since the election, to make people think that Trump would actually do something constructive about the Ukraine War?
I can't recall anything in Trump's life that he has done that was constructive. The first thing about Trump's personality is that he is always looking for a corrupt payoff to enrich himself. And the second thing about Trump is that he has to create noise so he can be the center of attention. If you look close enough, this peace effort feeds Trump's personality. And Putin knows it.
To understand what is happening, you have to look thru Putin's KGB eyes. He sees Trump as a Russian asset that must be manipulated and protected for Russia's gain. Ukraine won't accept whatever deal Putin and Trump cook up. But that's ok with Putin.
It will be a big propaganda win at home for Putin when Ukraine rejects the deal. Plus, Trump will get pissed off and he will use Ukraine's rejection as an excuse to lift sanctions. And, maybe cut off American military sales to Ukraine thou that might be harder for Trump since American industry won't like it.
There appears to be no bottom. For me, it's a significant bridge further than even I expected for us to attempt to actually benefit from the invasion of an ally. Have you seen the Bond film Quantum of Solace? What Trump did to Zelenskyy is exactly what the villain in that film -- Dominic Greene -- did to the president of Bolivia. Shoved a piece of paper in front of him asking him to sign over mineral rights, as the price of protection. In QoS it was water, not minerals, and 100% not 50%, but otherwise it was exactly the same. For me, it's a significant bridge further than even I expected for us to attempt to actually benefit from the invasion of an ally. Agree with the overall Bond parallel, though I’m more and more convinced it’s the flip. Musk is operating with such callous and reckless impunity, while currently stealing massive quantities of life giving attention from don, that circumstance points towards Musk wielding the big stick rhetorically and functionally. Don appears to be merely a tech, Russian, white-supremacist, and christonationlist puppet.Musk is the henchman; Trump the big boss.
Or just common New York mafiosos, if you don’t want to turn to cinema.Have you seen the Bond film Quantum of Solace? When you think about them in Bond villain terms, the relationship between Musk and Trump becomes much clearer. Musk is the henchman; Trump the big boss.

I stand corrected.Mafiosi
I don't know why I typed that. Probably as some sort of sardonic closure to the analogy. Carry on.I stand corrected.
I would like to know what percentage of the riches in the deal Trump was going to take as his personal cut? Of course, at this point Trump may not see a distinction between what America gets and what his cut is.I didn't expect that we would swoop in and steal the riches of the country as part of the dividing of the spoils of war.
It’s all good. I learned something. Namely, that I suck at Italian.I don't know why I typed that. Probably as some sort of sardonic closure to the analogy. Carry on.
Putin’s unhinged Novorossiya screed made this crystal clear. Every European nation should be contemplating withdrawal from NPT and get busy refining fissile material. Ukraine would be in a very different position if they’d held onto some of their massive stockpile and it’s clear Russia (and now apparently, the US) will not be inconvenienced by international agreements.A more broadly important point for Europe is Russia deeming any territorial concessions made by the Soviet Union as not binding on Russia
