Given that it was supposed to be on ESPNU, it should have been cross-listed ACCNX/ESPN+. Sucks that it wasn’t.Yes, it would have been nice if ESPN treated this game as an ACCN-Extra game and just made it available for free on the streaming app like they do for our FCS football games.
Like Snoop said, at least cross list it in advance. No one knew until last minute where it would be shown. It’s the Regional Weekend.
At least a plurality of locations, if not a majority, are in the Southeast…….weather in this area in late May/early June is UNPREDICTABLE.
It’s also College Baseball - not exactly the most popular TV sport.
My guess is that often the delayed game doesn’t start for hours. If Game X is being shown because of weather at Game Y’s location, Game X has likely garnered viewers. Many of Game Y’s viewers went to dinner, the movies, drinks with friends, etc.
ESPN isn’t conspiring against UNC or the ACC.
It’s not like the UNC-Oklahoma baseball game had millions of people clamoring to watch it.
Again, it’s college baseball. Which IS NOT a revenue positive sport.
BackwardsThink wmheel said the kid last night was the ace but the kid tonight isn’t too far off only isn’t as good with control. I might have misread him.
Cross-listing the game to ACCNX & ESPN+ would have cost ESPN nothing in terms of extra expenses and likely less than 10 minutes of some employee’s time setting up the extra code for there to be a second access for the digital stream. When ESPN determined that they weren’t going to be able to keep it on national TV, setting up a second stream opportunity to ensure the most folks had the chance to watch isn’t terribly much to ask. It’s college baseball……
Hardly ANYONE watches it.
Count yourself lucky if you can watch a minute of any game.
This isn’t new Snoop. ESPN has been dumping weather delayed baseball tournament games (and even some regular season games) to ESPN+ for years now.Cross-listing the game to ACCNX & ESPN+ would have cost ESPN nothing in terms of extra expenses and likely less than 10 minutes of some employee’s time setting up the extra code for there to be a second access for the digital stream. I’ve not encountered this issue before with Heels’ baseball games. And it wasn’t the $11.99 or $4.99 for the special. It was doing it last minute. They had a box showing UNC-OU in weather delay. Would it have hurt to add that it Is moving to ESPN + in the same graphic? Today’s game is on ESPN + and while I’m not happy, I’m not necessarily frustrated. They’ve made it known well ahead of time. Can plan accordingly. So they forced UNC fans (who won’t spring for the $11.99) to get nothing rather than half.
Yep, just saw SECN, but have the ESPN + subscription link handy since this happened last night tooTonight's game will be televised on SECN, but has been delayed half an hour (so far).
