Syracuse cut baseball in 1972 and SMU in 1980, both for financial reasons. Although for Syracuse, long winters and low fan support were also listed as reasons.Syracuse, sure -- it doesn't stop snowing until late April or early May. SMU? No idea. Methodists don't like baseball?
The joys of a single-elimination baseball tournament. I understand why the ACC decided to go this route, but it is not a particularly good way to determine the best team in the conference.Cal opens the ACC tourney by run-ruling Miami 12-2.
And the regular season matchups-with more opponents than allowable weekends to play them all -means some awfully tilted advantages for some teams-disadvantages for othersThe joys of a single-elimination baseball tournament. Agreed. Of course, none of it really matters. The big issue is where the NCAA ranks you.And the regular season matchups-with more opponents than allowable weekends to play them all -means some awfully tilted advantages for some teams-disadvantages for others
The baseball tournament should have been eliminated long ago in favor of another weekend of regular season games. The joys of a single-elimination baseball tournament. No, I don't think they will. Baseball has become exceptionally expensive to keep up with and SMU won't be getting a lot of revenue from the ACC which will be a shell of itself in another 3 years. Now that SMU is in the ACC I bet they re start their baseball program within the next few years. Only issue may be Title IX.
SMU is a head scratcher for me also.Syracuse, sure -- it doesn't stop snowing until late April or early May. SMU? No idea. Methodists don't like baseball?
SMU wants a powerhouse football program. Now that SMU is in the ACC I bet they re start their baseball program within the next few years. Only issue may be Title IX.
