Kepley catches the fly ball - 2 down.

Knapp is throwing in the pen.

McDuffie has thrown 46 pitches so far.

OU batter OUT because he wasn’t ready in time.

Onto the 9th inning! 11-3, Heels!

Have been wanting to ask this but didn’t want to throw out a jinx 😀 When the RC sent out the ticket email for the regional, sounded like it was only the regional. Or was it for both the regional and super regional.

Figure @wmheel1287 will know 😀

Feels like every host in a winner takes all game is the home team in the remaining games. Anyone know the logic that determines this? Does it change if the host team loses early? Trying to find some sense to this 😀

Found this (not sure how accurate it is):

Step 1) The team has been the home team fewer times during the tournament becomes the home team.

Step 2) If both teams were the home team the same number of times, count the number of times each team was the visiting team during the tournament. The team that was the visiting team more often during the tournament becomes the home team.

Step 3) If both teams were the home team and visiting team the same number of times and the teams met previously during the tournament, the visitor in the immediately preceding game between the two teams becomes the home team.

Step 4) If both teams were the home team and visiting team the same number of times and the teams did not previously meet during the tournament, the team that was the visitor in its most recent, preceding game becomes the home team.

Step 5) If both teams were the home team and visiting team the same number of times, the teams did not previously meet during the tournament, and both teams were the visitor (or home team) in their most recent, preceding game, then the home team is decided by a coin flip.

Found it 😀 And it makes sense with how the teams are today as far as H/A. From Google:

In NCAA baseball, the home team for each game is determined by a set of rules that prioritize fairness and minimize travel for teams. Generally, the team that has been the home team the fewest number of times in the tournament gets to be the home team. If that's tied, the team that's been the visiting team more often gets the designation. If both teams have an equal number of home and visitor games, then a coin flip decides.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  1. 1. First Round:
In the first round of regional tournaments, the higher seed is the home team.

  2. 2. Subsequent Games:
After the first round, the team that's been the home team the fewest number of times gets to be the home team in subsequent games.

  3. 3. Tiebreaker:
If both teams have been the home team the same number of times, the team that's been the visitor more often is designated as the home team.

  4. 4. Coin Flip:
If both teams have the same number of home and visitor games, the NCAA games committee or representative decides the home team, with a coin flip being the final step if other tiebreakers don't apply.

They should add one more scenario where if the same teams play each other 3 times, the higher seed is the home team in game 3.

That being said, if we had been home team today, we would have only scored 11 runs so all's well that ends well.

Leaving the stadium I had a really surreal moment. A couple of guys were chanting SEC. It is just odd to be on the receiving end of the SEC chant when used in a mocking way. We are used to being the instigators of that - along with most non-SEC schools.

I guess we turned to the dark side. But for the record, other than maybe some really really young OU fans, you will never hear us chant SEC. We are far more likely to still chant it mockingly to established SEC schools. We are glad to be in the SEC because it is good for our future in sports but we hate the cult of the SEC.

And I think the UNC fans can understand because there has been talk of them joining the SEC so they can imagine the surreal feeling they would get if that happens.

Anyway, not at all complaining about those guys. Hell I would have joined them if people would have understood I was also doing it with a mocking intent. But they wouldn’t so I couldn’t.

How was the game (other than the final score)? Boshamer got a renovation about 15 years ago, but it still doesn't have the amenities of some of the nicer SEC stadiums.

In a few years, UNC fans will likely be chanting SEC in a non-mocking way. I am actually surprised that anti-SEC bias still exists -- as a lot of UNC fans have soured on the ACC the last couple of years.

  • No. 3 Arkansas (won Fayetteville Regional)
  • No. 4 Auburn (won Auburn Regional)
  • No. 5 North Carolina (won Chapel Hill Regional)
  • No. 6 LSU (won Baton Rouge Regional)
  • No. 8 Oregon State (won Corvallis Regional)
  • No. 9 Florida State (won Tallahassee Regional)
  • No. 13 Coastal Carolina (won Conway Regional)
  • No. 14 Tennessee (won Knoxville Regional)
  • No. 15 UCLA (won Los Angeles Regional)
  • Arizona (won Eugene Regional)
  • Duke (won Athens Regional)
  • Louisville (won Nashville Regional)
  • Miami (won Hattiesburg Regional)
  • Murray State (won Oxford Regional)
  • UTSA (won Austin Regional)
  • West Virginia (won Clemson Regional)
So the SEC has 4 Gosh I would think they would have more

thats about how many they have every year. they have had 8 out of the past 10 teams in the championship game winning all five. they are the premier baseball conf and second isnt close.

“The SEC: It Just Means More” Losses

I would say that part of it is that when you have more teams admitted, that includes more bubble teams and that those teams aren’t as likely to move on. But the SEC only went 4-4 with their national seeds, including losses by the overall 1 & 2 seeds. And none of their 2/3 seeds moved on to the Supers.

I’ll add this here, since there’s no existing general CWS thread.

5 of 16 teams remaining are from the ACC. That’s pretty great. Good showing by my Miami Hurricanes this evening to get past #16 national seed Southern Miss.
yeah, really nice showing from the ACC thus far after it was disrespected during the seeding process.

Baseball is a random sport. Stuff like that happens more often in baseball. I’ll defer to the larger sample size of the last five years. Over time, the best league will outperform and that has certainly been the SEC.

It was fun. I wasn't expecting OU to win. It was more about enjoying an afternoon off work and if OU won then great. Despite having a couple of CWS championships (one being my last year in college) and a recent CWS final appearance, we are not near the baseball program of UNC, IMO. Our deep CWS runs were basically flukes from teams that got hot at the right moment. When we beat Georgia Tech in 1994, I doubt we would win 2/10 of those games - not with Garciapara and Veritek on the other side. Probably lucky it wasn't best 2 of 3 back then.

Anyway, I was impressed with the facilities. I can't compare to other SEC schools but OU's baseball facilities are just not great at all - just not set up to create a great atmosphere. They've renovated a bit but it is far behind programs like UNC.

I wish our baseball field (and basketball arena) were on campus. Technically both are connected to the campus but they are about a mile south of the real part of campus. Love that UNC athletic facilities are all right there in the middle of campus.

I think the ACC has proven itself in this tournament with 5 teams advancing to the Supers and with only 3 teams hosting regionals. An argument can be made that we are equivalent - top to bottom - with the mighty SEC. Where the league needs to step up is winning the CWS and break the SEC's 5 year grip on the championship - here's looking at you Heels!
