Very, very early obviously but thus far the pitching staff has a 1.32 ERA and a .155 batting average allowed through 34 innings pitched.

Pitching looks to be as advertised.

This *feels* to me like it’s our best overall staff since that one with Alex White, Rob Wooten, Matt Harvey, Adam Warren, Robert Woodard, and Colin Bates.

Harvey and Woodard never got to pitch together (and i think Bates was same age as Harvey) 06 was great, 07-09 lacked some bullpen depth and Fox never really trusted the 3rd starter as much as 06. (07 especially as Alex Struggled and Putkonen didn’t give us depth)

Ahh dang my memory failed me!

Those 07-08 teams run together in my mind. Both were excellent and the pieces were very similar
Totally. I was just finishing up high school at the time and remember how much I looks forward to June when I’d get to see UNC baseball on national television during the NCAAT, since back then the regular season games weren’t televised or streamed like they are now. Those 2006-2009 UNC teams made me a huge college baseball fan.

The IU team we swept this weekend put up 15 runs through 7 innings to run rule a team yesterday as well. While it was just Bradley, that at least provides some evidence they have some hitting ability. We held them to an average of 3 runs per game and errors actually inflated that run total. So all in all, pitching looking great early on.

Those were my 4 years of college. Actually lived at Avery sophomore year too

Man, I can’t even imagine how cool that was! That was the “old Bosh” too where you could bring in a cooler, right?
it was the old Bosh but i was too young to bring anything cool in. Then 08 we went to Cary (and the hottest super regional of all time)

and that's without seeing more than ~1 inning of McDuffie/Seagraves and no action yet from Olin Johnson, all of whom were at least pretty good last year. Depth on this staff is ridiculous.

Coach has too many good pitchers
lol
It does bode well if we can get to Omaha

Texted with Gaines this morning complimenting him. His only response was "gonna get a lot tougher. Need these young bucks to step up". That dude is relentless. Our baseball staff is special.

When I was in school, 75-79, we spent many an spring afternoon at Bosh. Had a couple of frat brothers who were on the team. It was either 78 or 79, when Mike Roberts was coach, that we took in a cooler and let's just say, probably were not well-behaved. He came up in the stands and shut that down. Roberts was a Pika before me, and I do not think he knew the group was made up of Pikas. Anyway, I now go on golf trips that include Mike and I have gotten to know him. I have yet to ask if he remembers that day.

That’s so cool. College at its finest!
